The problem is the fact that the biggest criminals and danger to the country are activist judges who are essentially accessories to these crimes.

It's not judges, it's money. You can buy your way out of most things in this country. It may cost you $50-60K, but you can do it. Do you know where that $ goes? To the people in charge of shit. It's a really ugly business. People without money get 20 years. People with money get a month in county and probation.

And who is paid off by the money? It's the judges. They're in charge of sentencing. I don't disagree that the system is bought and paid for. But who is being bought?

Everybody. They all have their hands out. It's really simple.

Can't deny that. 'Justice' is a commodity that can be bought and sold. Which means it's really not justice.
Yeah. When the playing field is not level, I cannot get on board. Killers need to be killed. There are people that are evil fucks and I would gladly flip the switch. Pull the trigger without any pause.

America has 5% of the world population and 25% of incarcerated citizens.

You have problems, but being "soft on crime" isn't one of them.

In mid-July, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson marked the one-year anniversary of the Scaling Community Violence Intervention for a Safer Chicago (SC2) initiative. The program targets neighborhoods on the South and West Sides where gun violence surged.

"It's policing and affordable housing, policing and mental and behavioral health services," Mayor Johnson said at the event. "We have 29,000 young people that will have summer jobs this summer: a 45 percent increase. But it is also working with every single level of government.”

Community investment and buy-in is what helps reduce violent crime.

“Tough on crime” doesn’t help on its own. But it is good to put away violent offenders.

In Canada there has been some miscarriages of justice. Karla Homolka being free is one of them.

Yes. We're too soft on crime, also for the ones already incarcerated, I believe they have it easy. They shoukd be made to suffer more.

Preach.

I know he's hurting inside. I can only imagine how traumatic his childhood was growing up.

Hurt people HURT people

I hope he gets the treatment and rehabilitation he needs so he can come back out to and become a member of society again

uuuugh... this low hanging fruit again?? OK I got time today so....

You know what's worse??? Being in a country with next to zero ability to solve murders (namely ALL countries in South America. Someone gets killed in America there is a 55% to 60% chance they are gonna find the killer in under a year. 70+% if we are counting cold cases.

Most countries south of the border..... it's about 5%. So, 95% of all killers get away scot free down there. So, imagine how many incarcerated citizens would be locked up down there if they had the ability of the US to solve murders. Brazil and Mexico alone would have to hire overseas help to build more prisons.

So in your opinion that number suggests that America is awesome at solving crime... And nothing else?

America has a murder solve rate of 50%, one of the lowest in the developed world. Canada, for example, has 75%. If Canada is 50% better at solving, why are only 107 per 100,000 Canadians incarcerated as opposed to 541 per 100,000 in the United States?

Some of these numbers may be off a little as I'm dealing with a mix of murder stats and general crime stats, but the general trend is overwhelming.

Brazil currently has a national average of 48%, but they've had much lower. Right now they're about the same as you.

Not doing the poll as it seems like it’s trying to tie the OP I know nothing about.

But yes, I think crime should be handled and punishments could be equivalent to the persons crimes, no softer or harder. You want policies in place that ensure people respect the law as rule of law is a cornerstone to a civilized society. I’m anti-death penalty but fine with escalating punishment for continually violate the law. That might not be enough in the weeds but I’m likely not the best option for getting in the weeds of it either.
