Do you understand the shit that goes on in the US?

If you think violent criminals should be locked up what's the problem.

I definitely understand it, you export that stuff.

People who commit violent crimes should definitely be punished, but your justice system is broken. It needs all kinds of reform and it would be better if it was a bipartisan effort.

What is broken in your opinion.

Didn't you have a guy that cut off someone's head and ate part of him and is now out.

What should have been his punishment for raping a 14 year old girl?

You're avoiding my question. Are we "soft on crime" because this particular guy did this particular thing? Because this is a common occurrence I see. A guy does a thing, and people with an agenda use that example as indicating a greater trend. Does the data support that position or are you suggesting that this particular guy should have gotten a more harsh sentence for the first crime.

I tried to look up what the sentence even was for the first count but I couldnt find it, I don't know if he had a suspended sentence, or was out on good behavior. And neither do you

They don't, ever.

They get groomed and raped, then in this instance, murdered :(

Local news reported he was pretending to be 17. Considering how many Cops think big black 17 year-olds are 31, its not surprising.

There has to be a balance that we have gotten away from. We went from locking everyone up that broke the law to suddenly, being ashamed that we were using our justice system as intended and caved to everyone pointing their finger and saying “you lock too many people up-especially black people!” Instead of wondering why these people in this country are committing so many crimes. And not just black people, but all people, it’s just that black people are so disproportionately violent and ingrained in criminal lifestyles-so again, instead of figuring out why and trying to fix that, we started going soft on criminals especially if they’re minorities and we end up with crimes and stories just like this.

For starters, it rewards the rich and punishes the poor.

An innocent person is considerably more likely to accept a plea deal if he's poor. This wildly skews crime statistics.

There are a lot of arguments about bail, and most people ignore the fact that bail isn't meant to keep dangerous people behind bars. It's meant to ensure appearance at trial. If someone is considered dangerous, they aren't supposed to be released. They're supposed to get pre-trial detention. This was affirmed by the Supreme Court in the 1987 case United States v. Salerno.

Prohibitive bail is specifically anti-constitutional, as per the Eighth Amendment.

Idk about 14...but if she was 13 and in Utah....

An 18-year-old in Utah who was accused of having sex with a 13-year-old avoided jail after the laws governing sexual offenses were changed while his relative was president of the state Senate.

That's how the Utah GOP rolls at least

Yes, we are soft on crime. If we aren't soft on crime, then why was this guy out after 2 years for raping a 14 year old?

So we do away with private lawyers so everyone get a public defender. Thats going to work out well.

How about no bail for any violent felony charges. That will "even" it up.

This is the fundamental misunderstanding, that already exists. If it's a violent crime, the judge can and should assign pre-trial detention. Bail has nothing to do with it. Bail is intended to ensure appearance at trial, and nothing else; it isn't intended to keep people safe.

My comment on rich vs. poor was addressing flaws in the justice system, not violent crime specifically.

Nah bra, your current prez has done more harm to your uhh...hmm.."great nation" in the past several months than obama ever did over 2 terms. Facts.
Not only that, the President is all over those files. There are hours of videotape taken from Epstein's NY penthouse. Where is all of that? I saw the shot of layers of film with labels on them.

There is so much that is being covered up. It's not about Trump. This is about teenagers being taken advantage of. This is wrong, and it will come out.

Politicians are already bad enough. Allowing sociopathic businessmen to become politicians is pretty much equivalent to opening the puzzle box in hellraiser.

I pretty much knew this world was mind bendingly awful.

I have people I live with. I have to keep a smile on my face. I have to wake up, feed animals, watch the sun rise, and get it together.

Ironically Canada has worse miscarriages of justice than that. That guy is probably rehabilitated and will likely never harm anyone ever again. Meanwhile real prolific offenders are allowed roam free. Violent drugged up psychos with crazy long rap-sheets that include killing and maiming people, even strangers, and they are released after a very small number of years.

How does a 15 year old start "dating" a 30 year old obese sex offender?

The same way the girls in Rotherham started "dating" Pakistani men old enough to be their fathers.

Find a young girl who is emotionally vulnerable. Begin the grooming process with gifts, alcohol, drugs etc. All the while telling her she's special and you care for her. Then move on to more brutal methods like beatings and rape when she's in too deep to break free.

The methodology is as efficient as it is disgusting. :(

And we need to expose those in power that did these things, right?
