My opinion: looking at the military and the new recruits coming in, something has changed and it's not for the better.

The amount of entitlement and general lack of situational awareness is different than just 15-20 years ago.

There's no doubt in my mind kids 18-28 joining today are weaker mentally and physically than the older guys. Even the military knows it: training and teaching approaches has been modified to accommodate these new batch..

1. I haven't seen a good source on the size of either group (or a good definition that would make it doable). But here's some interesting stuff. 85% of self-described conservatives identify as Christian, and 70% of them say that religion is important to them (and 70% say they pray daily). Half read scripture weekly, and another 10th read once or twice a month. Note also that there are religious nuts on the SCOTUS and in leadership positions in Congress. Trump isn't a religious nut (or even a believer, I'd wager), but his strongest supporters are Evangelicals (a pretty good proxy for the religious nutter voters). As for the "Snowflake" population and reach, it's even harder to find a rough estimate, but if we go by support for the most-extreme stories that come up, it's barely measurable. They have no footing in gov't, really. Note that AOC is a freshman Rep with no leadership position (who has been publicly scolded by leadership) and rates as the most extreme member of the House. And she still is unlikely to agree with some of the types of things we've seen. If the definition is broader--say people who don't allow their 7-year-olds to ride the subway alone, the numbers are bigger but we're talking about a less-objectionable issue.

2. Depends what we're talking about specifically. I don't put my daughter on the subway. I thought Chappelle's last special was only so-so (and some of the "offensive" stuff was weak), but I'm still a big fan of him and look forward to his future work (so I disavow the 0.1% of the population that wants to kill his career or whatever). I don't support teaching kids to twerk in libraries.

Gen X latch key kid here, and damn glad I grew up when I did. I learned at a very young age that if I wanted something, I had to make it happen myself.

I have millennial cousins that are complete snowflakes and they are going to have very hard lives.
