Do u guys member Coleman vs. Shogun 2?

Its insane to me how BJJ black belts like Shogun and Bonnar still got manhandled by Coleman and neither of them came CLOSE to subbing Coleman. Bonnar a Renzo black belt and Shogun a Christiano Marcelo black belt.

Fedor's Sambo armlocks though:

I thought Shogun got his blackbelt from Nino Schembri? The guy Eddie Bravo pirated.

Coleman had a pretty good run toward the end of his career. Win over Shogun, close match against Shogun, and a win over Bonnar. They were ugly fights but Coleman was a fucking fossil at the time. He literally won his last fights solely on old man strength and wrestling. His striking was non-existent, he moved like he was stuck in molasses, he never developed a real submission game. Pretty impressive for late 2000's UFC.

I counted Shogun out after that performance against Coleman I didn't think he would become champion I was proven so wrong.

Early stoppage if I remember.

Didn't Coleman pops up like WTF after the stoppage.

I think he literally yells "there was 30 fucking seconds"

that might have been in his emotional post fight though.

either way shit ending

Also, its been awhile since I saw this fight lol

Yeah and I also remember the really sad video of Coleman post fight, swollen and bloody and screaming in the locker room about the stoppage and how he almost had it
I don't think I've seen that video, Poor Coleman, I can see why he would feel like that.

Yeah, I remember thinking shogun was done. Hard to believe he's still wracking up legitimate wins after loooking like a spent fighter way back then

War shogun of course
In retrospect, not counting his pride run, it's like he always looked that way. Sort of mediocre with some clutch wins

I think you're right. I think its Wand who got his black belt from Christiano Marcelo and Shogun who got his black belt from Schembri. Either way both Schembri and Marcelo were Chute Boxe regulars and Shogun developed some high level BJJ training with them over the years.

Wand got an honorary blackbelt from Carlinhos Gracie himself.

I hated everything about that fight. Shogun looked slow, uncoordinated and gassed out. And then we had Mark Coleman who was brought back into the UFC to be fed to everyone. It's one of those fights you want to be erased from your mind, kind of like his fight with Chael or Wand/Leben.

Props to Shogun for one of the biggest career comebacks in mma history. From a war of life and death with Mark Coleman to winning the belt a year later. Inspirational dude right there.
Great comeback but Coleman himself has a career comeback in 2000 which is probably the best ever

And Rogan got a black belt from Machado and from Eddie Bravo. My original point was that Shogun has great BJJ and got absolutely manhandled by Coleman and never came close to submitting him.

Mark Coleman was an absolute savage in his younger years. One of the best power double leg takedowns this sport has ever seen. Cain Velasquez wishes he could shoot a power double the way Coleman once could.

In a lot of ways, Shogun was the Carlos Condit of 205; very VERY weak takedown defense but it didn't get exploited as badly as it could have, partially due to having good BJJ and some good fortune in avoiding heavy grapplers or wrestlers with good top games. Both of them had really bad losses due to how easy they were to take down; Condit against Maia and Shogun against Sonnen.

Shogun wasn't always like that though. His horrible wrestling came after his knee injuries. Prior to his knee injuries, in Pride he actually used to take everyone down including good wrestlers like Rampge, lil nog 7 times, Arona etc. His grapple issues came after he had a bunch of knee injuries and lost his ability to explode and his cardio went down the tube.

Lol the UFC tried to fuck up with Shogun giving first Chuck than Lyoto but it backfired :) Jones got the job done though :(

Pretty sure they preferred to have Shogun as champ instead of Lyoto. Shogun actually did good ratings, which is part why they gave him the instant rematch with Lyoto.

Lyoto vs Jones did 320k ppv buys. Shogun vs Machida I did 500k & Shogun vs Machida II did 520k.

Shogun was a bigger draw than both Machida & Jones.

Prime Coleman would have pwnt Shogun (again)

Radiation victim Coleman gave him a close fight and might have got the dec if not for the early stoppage
Breaking his arm by posting on a takedown early in the fight = pwnt??

That video is definitely looking like it was a close fight which is what a lot of people think till this day. But Shogun almost finished him in the first and also took Coleman down(which was not shown in the video). Both guys gassed, it was a war actually but it was a mess. But the fight was not close like people believe. Coleman taking down Shogun a few times and being in a very weird position in the 2nd round for like 2 minutes where neither one of them could move because they didn't have the energy does not mean it was a close fight. Both guys gave it their best but Shogun was winning the fight the entire time until he knocked him out in the final round. Some people like to think Coleman won the 2nd and was winning the 3rd and was about to win a decision. But Coleman didn't win, Shogun tko'd him. I had Shogun winning the first 2 rounds and finishing him in the 3rd. I mean wtf. Props to Coleman for putting up a good fight for someone that was way past his prime against one of the best in the world.
