Not just talent. They start early and their discipline and commitment are scary. No drugs, alcohol and staying up late plays a part as well.

Its also that they're training in all aspects of grappling from a young age too. Most Sherdogers don't train, so they only think Dagaestanis wrestle, but Judo and Sport Sambo (aka Soviet Judo) are both huge over there. Even if they're not directly competing at a high level in Judo or Sambo, a lot of their training partners are, so they're getting exposure and experience. A lot of Khabib and Islam's takedowns are more traditional Judo/Sambo upright positions, and then they transition to traditional wrestling if those don't work. Most fighters don't have that ability, especially people who only do wrestling (typically the Western fighters).

And then when they're older, a lot of them go into Combat Sambo which is basically MMA.
