Sure, that's right now. But he was hoping to set himself up as the long term GOP alternative and was courting donors to make that happen. He needs those donors and their support if he's going to have even a minimal chance of beating Trump. Without them, he's dead in the water.

With Rubio and McCarthy now making indirectly critical comments about this situation, he has to be wondering how to get out of this without looking like he lost. Because he did lose. This has overshadowed his political positioning to such a degree that it can only hurt him. By comparison, the bussing refugee thing was a political win for him, it conveyed the right message to the base but didn't linger or turn into a distraction. This is not that.

I just think it’s fantastic that Meatballs was poised to become the next chud king but Trump absolutely refuses to fuck off. It’s a real pleasure to watch Trump clowning him while his poll numbers tank and Republicans from his own state endorse Trump over him. At this point I’d be amazed if he still runs in 24. It really couldn’t be happening more dweeby, unloveable shitstain of a man. The Disney stuff is just icing on the cake.

Disney is just hoping that yelling "homophobia!" will get them the win. I may be wrong but I believe the governor has the ability to remove special conditions at will. Otherwise, they are above the law and jurisdiction.

Special conditions: Without a doubt. It's stupid to do it since it's been good for Disney and the State, but it's legal.

Not a lawyer, but I think the crux of their case is that it is all retaliation (removal of special district, appointing the board, trying to nullify the veto powers the previous board granted on its way out) for things they said, and therefore a violation of their 1A rights. The board itself may also be a problem, but it sounds like Disney is looking to prove RDS is "weaponizing" the government against a private company. Who knows, though. I'm just inferring all of this from the language in the suit:
  • “Having exhausted efforts to seek a resolution, the Company is left with no choice but to file this lawsuit to protect its cast members, guests, and local development partners from a relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials.” Yes, certain state officials.
  • “This government action was patently retaliatory, patently anti-business, and patently unconstitutional. But the Governor and his allies have made clear they do not care and will not stop.”
  • “Disney finds itself in this regrettable position because it expressed a viewpoint the Governor and his allies did not like. Disney wishes that things could have been resolved a different way.” So much regret.
  • DeSantis and other lawmakers have “proudly declared that Disney deserves this fate because of what Disney said."

He went after Disney after they criticised the 'don't say gay' law. This looks like a clear case of 1st amendment rights being violated.

Why would anyone be on board with this? Regardless of DeSantis? Leftists apparently hate Capitalism and Disney are like the juggernaut of capitalist power in their field. Why would anyone be cheering on this? Leftists literally change their tune daily based upon the simple factor of whether someone they dislike is involved.

politicians retaliating against companies because they said things they don't like isn't exactly the best precedent. gov intervention is bad unless it's retaliating against a company that said something you disagreed with.......

Why would anyone support DeSantis? This is an attack on the 1st amendment. Conservatives like to say liberals are anti free speech, yet here they support DeSantis, just because Disney spoke against the 'don't say gay' law and DeSantis is engaging in culture wars.
