You're clueless. Maybe try to judge his teakwondo and kungfu skills too? Looking at Deivison's past performances, he didn't get beat up or go to wars to get the victory, he didn't suffer significant damage. So why this judgment now? Understand that his style is based on his durability and athletic prowess for the division. More often than not, he can ignore what flyweights throw at him to deliver the game changing shot. Moreno is an excellent fighter, but what was surprising here is not his success, but that he survived Figgy and had the heart and cardio to immediately fire back.
Thanks for your input. But why would I "try to judge his tae kwon do and kung fu skills"? That makes no sense, at all.
I said time and time again that I like Figueiredo, he has the skills to become one the goats in the division, but it seems that noting a flaw in his defense is like touching an exposed nerve.
It seems to me that he is overconfident in his own power, and try to call his opponents to a trap to finish them with his KO power, but Moreno -who is a much better fighter than Sherdog seems to admit- didn´t need his wrestling as he almost finished Figueiredo in the standup.
IMO Figueiredo won that fight, it wasn´t really a draw, but in fact Moreno was much closer to finish the fight than Figgie, the only of the two that at some point of the fight was wobbly and backpedalling to punches and kicks. And that was because of his technique of going into the pocket with your hands at waist level. He did exactly the same thing in the first fight against Benavidez and also against Formiga, that i can remember. Clearly is his style, and something is working because he is the champ, and he managed to achieve that fighting with his hands at waist level.
I don´t know your background, but i know that mine is boxing. When you lace your gloves and walk into the ring there are two basic no-nos: 1) don´t avoid punched moving your torso backwards, because you end losing balance to counter, and 2) don´t change your stance, learn how to fight in one stance and stay on it, as there is ONE stance in which your body is more efficient (which is a rule that most mma seems to ignore, for some reason, I suppose is related to the low kicks to the lead leg).
Against Benavídez and Moreno, Figueiredo was both swapping stances and trying to avoid jabs moving the torso backwards.
And still he defeated Benavidez and Moreno, which maybe speaks of how good he is. But nothing changes the fact that a wrestler almost put him out in the standup.
You also mention that he can ignore what flyweighters throw at him, and that makes me think that he is a BIG flyweight, and wonder how his technique of guard at waist level would work at bantam.
We will have to wait and see, I guess.
