Disappointed last night

ganes approach to just react to jones pushing him around was deadly from the start

Is there any clips of Pickett complaining about it? Looked to me like he was kneed in stomach and grimaced.
Someone in pickett’s status dares not to speak up against Dana whites possible future cash cow investment. You take your loss like you’re supposed to.

I've seen plenty of fighters complain, especially when they are reading the results at the end. Dana can resell controversy in the form of rematches, so I don't think that's a major factor if enough people really were crying enough to see how the fight would go without a nut shot (which btw no one has evidence of protest of it by Pickett).

I get what ur saying. But The situation with Bo Nickal is a bit different. Hes a rising prospect and he will get the paddy treatment.

Gane has no grappling but more importantly, the guy lacks heart.

Im not talking about Gane disappointing fans. I dont hate jones. Im disappointed as a fan of fights, and in a 2 minute fight that people paid 80$ for.

I agree I didn't have money invested but I was hoping for a better fight. I didn't really care who won I was just hoping for a good fight. A lot of people feel ripped off so Gane will always get hate for that performance.

Actually just read about the manager requesting results overturned so I was wrong about the nut shot, apparently they are saying he did get hit in the nuts.

... But last nights main event was pretty weak. We did not see a good fight. I hate 1st round flash KOs and quick fights. ....That's not a fight, in the sense that neither fighters heart was tested.

Historically - the goal of fighting is not to "test one's heart."
It is to survive uninjured by incapacitating the other guy.

A truism of martial arts: your opponent cannot fight if he cannot see, cannot breathe, or cannot stand up.

Arguably, one objective of the evolution of rulesets for combat sports has been to prolong a contest by prohibiting techniques that quickly cause incapacitating injury, thus limiting the contest to a test of only certain skills.

Interestingly, cage-fighting seems to be a devolution of that process, reintroducing numerous techniques for quickly incapacitating an opponent.

UFC refs often (always?) warn the fighters: "Protect yourself at all times."

Observations:
1 - Gane actually mentioned his coach's warning about the danger of sitting against the fence.
2 - Jones UFC guillotine finishes: O'brien, bader, Machida, and now Gane. Spanning 14 years.
3 - Jones got Gane's back and tried to drag him backwards to take him down. Then Gane pitched forward. It wasn't a trip. The fight went to the mat with Jones on Gane's back because Gane dove forward while Jones had him wrapped. No skilled wrestler would have done that.
4 - Gane was a fish out of water after that.

Gane's inability to defend himself is why the fight ended so quickly.

If you have a complaint, it is against the matchmakers.

If they match me with Jones next, don't buy the PPV, because the outcome will be the same: a very fast finish.

Cheers.

I am very pleased with the outcome but you're right TS. For such a high-stakes fight it really was extremely underwhelming. Hearing Ciryl talk about not training outside of fights and all the discussion about his wrestling being a weakness only to get dragged down and choked out in 2 minutes. An objectively terrible fight especially at heavyweight where the level of danger is higher. I wouldn't show it to a non-fan and tell them this is the crowning moment for the GOAT of the sport (which Jones is imo).

It was a good fight when it comes to showing one fighter outclassing the other, just not from the prolonged entertainment aspect. Can't always avoid the mismatches. Gane had over a decade of fights to watch to know what he was getting into, but was clearly unable to prepare adequately.

....I wouldn't show it to a non-fan and tell them this is the crowning moment for the GOAT of the sport ........

Alt idea:

I would show this fight to non-fans if I could preface the showing by explaining that MMA remains a contest of fighting skills. Despite Jones being universally disparaged for his lifestyle, PED use, ring rust, body condition, and chances against a "great striker" (Gane), the fact remains that Jones has decades of MMA experience and success compared to Gane's 4 years, and Jones was an accomplished wrestler from childhood whereas Gane has never wrestled.
"If you ignore the non-essential aspects of this contest and focus on the bare essentials, it is possible that Jones may finish Gane very quickly, despite popular opinion. That is the essence of being great. When the cage door shuts on a great cage fighter, only a few things really matter. So let's see what happens."

Then...

"Yep. The goat finished that guy in minutes. Made it look easy. He never had a chance. This is what happens when a great fighter meets an inexperienced fighter. UFC matchmakers need to do better; put aside celebrity and legacy BS and focus on matching fighters according to skill, otherwise this sport will become a circus of skill vs. mouth."

FWIW, I really don't like Jones or anything he does outside the ring. I find him cringy and fake.

However, inside the cage, he is so far the greatest who has ever done it.
He has a very broad and effective skillset, and he is willing to fight.
People forget that last bit.
Jones is just a man, same as every other man.
When the bell dings, he puts aside fear and reservation, and he attacks, no matter who is across the ring.
That mentality and his skillset is what makes him great.

One cherry picked opponent at the top of the card doesn't ruin everything else in my eyes. That was a phenomenal MMA event. I enjoyed it greatly.
now he was cherry picked.. Now Gane is a bum.. show me wehre you said Jones obliterate this guy. I am a huge Jones fans, the athlete, he made mistakes outside the ring, which i hope he learned from, that being said i was nervous as hell going into this and no way i thought he would do what he did.. even though Jon knew it would be easy, we should have listened. he is just the best ever and by far the smartest fighter ever..

I never said Gane was a bum. I said the fight was intriguing because there were so many unknowns. Still, I also said this is a tailor made matchup for Jones in theory based off of his wrestling background and submission ability when the fight was announced. I also said he would fight Stipe next if he wins and will then retire. Stylistically, it was a cherry picked fight.

The UFC seemingly wanted nothing to do with Stipe since he lost to Francis, yet they told him he was next even before the fight last evening as to set up the easiest fight to sell with all the GOAT speak, despite the Blaydes/Pavlovich winner being the guy who should be next. The UFC is playing chess, not checkers.

Here's my post from January 14th, the day it was announced:

With that said, if Jones isn't completely shot, he's going to probably get the TD often and win the fight. Gane is one of the top Heavyweights who doesn't have killshot power and has bad TDD. This fight is tailor made for Jones.
