News Ding Dong, Mandatory 2FA is Dead (Important new notes/answers about 2FA)

This 2FA thing wasn't ever gonna work. We started circling the wagons immediately. Even fairly mild people like myself that have been here for fifteen years were like well maybe I'll just never come back once I'm prompted at login.

I still don't even understand what people were upset about.

It asked me once to take a code from my email, so I did it. That's it. Lots of applications and sites I use do this. I thought this shit was normal lol.

It's literally just more account protection, so what were people crying and e-suiciding about exactly?

I can't speak for everyone but I know I speak for more than just myself when I say I've gone from I'll never leave to I'll leave if they keep messing around with people so damn much. But I'd rather not. I've been here nearly 20 years.

I don't WANT to set up 2FA for this account. And I shouldn't have to and it never ever should have been presented as an ultimatum. No other casual forum I've ever been to makes you do that.

It's not the first time we've run into the powers behind sherdog trying to enforce something that isn't normal and that nobody wants. And as soon as anyone makes any noise about not wanting to go along it's either getting talked down to or threats of what will happen if we don't comply.

It's a karate forum for one. For two, I've been here forever and am generally well behaved and polite to people and don't appreciate being talked down to any time they randomly feel like it. Especially when they know they can speak to us any disrespectful way they like and we can't talk back in the same tone or we'll face punishment.

Then let's not even get into mods taking over the accounts of dead or banned posters to troll. We're not supposed to do this or that out of respect for the community when they treat us with absolutely zero respect every chance they get?

Bro, the ads are absolutely fucked up and glitchy. Half the time they literally appear over the top of people's posts for me. Surely, that is not intended lol.

The situation with the ads has been bad for awhile. It's better if you're plat but you shouldn't have to go plat to have the forum be usable on your phone imo.

And they've had mods impersonate Det, Shonuf, and Turg after his ban that I know of. And in the Turg situation they talked down to quite a lot of us just for being upset he was banned and they wouldn't tell us why. Only to have them turn around and impersonate him after threatening posters for even bringing his name up.

If you're in a position of power where you have some degree of authority over people, it's important to make sure you don't abuse that power and don't use your authority to bully or talk down to people. For the respect of your position if for no other reason.

But they don't act that way here, and they never have.

That's the part that worried me when I first heard. I ain't got much issue with me needing to use the email to log in that I already used to sign up. The problem would be with needing some kind of app, or entering a phone number. It's bad enough in something financially attached to need to use more identity, when we're already in a world where constant data leaks mean that the people who are in charge of overseeing your security aren't secure themselves.

So yeah, just email my already fakenamed, non-personal email account

I saw deadshot mention this in support and most people came at him with the whole "ads are picked based on your preferences" bullshit. I NEVER have anything even slightly pornographic on my phone (just don't check my desktop) and I still saw that shit too

Whoever told him that was gaslighting. I don't watch porn on my fucking phone lmao, I use my PC or tablet for that.

I'm not a prude but it is kinda silly/interesting that we can get dubbed or banned for dildo posts but they can put giant dildo ads on my phone with zero warning, so there's a legit chance that embarrassing adult content will show up on my phone without warning and get me in trouble at work.

One would think such situations would be exactly why they have bans for NSFW content in place. But they talk out of both sides of their mouth. If the parent company is profiting off of it, well then it's fine for THEM but WE will still be held accountable.

The account they used for an Aprils fool joke was another account.
People quickly realized it was not Turg when checking the post history.

I know it was not specifically turgs actual account but that doesn't really change anything about what I said at all. The other times they took over accounts I'm not aware of it was the legit account or not, but I know it came up within that thread that it wasn't turgs account.

Like I said several times that I know of. I don't know exact details on the other ones. We joke around with each other and a lot of us are friendly with various mods and admins and that's all well and good. We've all been here for years. The harmless pranks style ribbing is different than what I'm talking about here.

I too am aware of the behind the scenes stuff with Turg. You'll notice none of my complaints were that Turg should be reinstated. Rather, impersonating Turg to make stupid jokes given how serious the situation actually is? That was done in extremely poor taste. Whether they used turgs actual account to do it or not is irrelevant.

I'd go a step beyond that to say it's EXTREMELY hypocritical given the way some of them talked to us just for inquiring about the situation. They're hypocrites and they take any chance given to use the authority they have here to talk down to people.

And when posters are freaking out and being childish they use that as an excuse to address everyone that speaks on the topic as if they were the troublemakers. Instead of addressing people individually and respectfully. For some reason, I don't like that.

Yeah I use brave on my desktop and iPad. It's pretty legit. It's telling that some sort of adblock is basically mandatory if you are using the site on mobile though.

That's not a good thing.
