difference of muay thai and kick boxing?

Ya good point. Are there any kick fighters who have become world boxing champions at the 60-80kg range? I think I do remember a guy like that. I cant remember his name, but I remember watching a rerun of when he won the world title and the announcer was saying things like "fighting here is boxing is a lot different from that kickboxing stuff he is used to!" I'm pretty sure he was a White American, which is really rare in boxing.
I think you mean Chris Algieri. He went 20-0 and won a world title before losing to Pacquiao.

Hmm, I thought it was a 90s or 2000s fight because the video quality was bad. It was probably just Algieri and I watched it on an old tv lol

ISKA champ doesnt really say much. There have been so many ISKA champs that we dont even consider top level

My point was more that he was a committed kickboxer for an extended period. To say he was a kickboxer that transitioned into boxing is accurate imo, same as saying Dustin Jacoby was a MMA fighter that crossed over into kickboxing despite the fact that he was a journeyman mma fighter. That said he was more of the 80s style of kickboxer as opposed to a dutch kickboxing style so it's not particularly relevant to this argument.

Yeah and pointed out in the thread khaosai and pongsanglek were also muay thai guys before they started boxing

Most boxers from thailand start out in muay thai to varying extents don't they?

Yeah Werdum went for the classic 'run forward with punches' muay thai technique (think I saw sangmanee use that one) but Stipe countered it with an MMA straight punch to the jaw. Muay thai is being exposed guys....

Isn't it amazing how often top MMA fighters lose in just the most embarrassing ways? Like, what the hell was he doing? If that's the last round and you're behind, I get it, but a few minutes into R1 and chasing a guy with desperate rock 'em sock 'em punches? Sheesh.

So many people have been praising Werdum for his improved striking, but that shit was bush league at best.

I remember that fight ...after the loss Rufus said anyone can throw low kicks.
1st round the Thai was getting a hiding and when leg kicks were allowed in the 2nd round the Thai just resorted to smashing him with leg kicks butit didn't make 2nd round entertaining compared to the first round.
Wish there was only Muay Thai for it's brutal honest style of fighting and there was Kickboxing i.e. no clinch/leg kicks which can look entertaining and flashy OR if you going have Universal rules just drop legs kicks and elbows but allow knees and clinch.

We have that. Its called "full contact." ISKA, WKO and some smaller leagues still do it. From what I hear its big in Germany.

K-1 rules were invented to be a "universal" rule set of sorts. Its not perfect in that regard, but its better than anything that wouldn't allow leg kicks.

But Karate has leg kicks too...

American Kickboxing is basically Kick Fencing and its unrealistic. And it absolutely sucks.

Yeah some of the old american kickboxers were great but the ruleset is total crap.

Then there's Burmese Lethwei where they have no gloves and use heads too.
Fast forward to the 12 minute point

Yeah... people say that Muay Thai is like the most complete striking sport... not a chance, Lethwei is crazy as shit.

I knew I wasn't tripping out! Algieri wasn't the guy I was thinking of, it was Troy Dorsey. He was ISKA and WAKO world kickboxing champion in the late 80s, and in 1991 he became the IBF world featherweight champion by knocking out Al Rangel.
