Diego's shown he's almost impossible to submit and knocking him out takes some constant volume to get it done. Durable and a good grappler.

Melendez is better in areas that matter the most. He'll stuff Diego's shots and boxes him up. Diego was trying to be technical against Gomi, but he isn't skilled enough for that to work. He's better when he's swinging forward in wars where his cardio and chin hold up.

Gil should win by decision.

I know some of the posts you guys will post will hurt but I still want to know it all nonetheless.

Wish the Diego of old shows but Diego has looked pretty bad from 2010 onwards. Imagine the Diego Sanchez that Beat Karo Parisyan vs Melendez.

Gil will win, you can bet the house on it.

With that said, Sanchez is talented and can return to old form with his grappling prowess... he's not old (31) and not used up.

Sanchez's problem is mental. He's the kind of guy that's his own worst enemy. If he believes in his potential again (and trains like it) and puts the failed title fight behind him (Penn made him look amateur), we'll see the old killer again.

I think Gilbert is too powerful and his takedown defense is too good for Sanchez. Don't think sanchez can keep compete on the feet.

Melendez via decision. Diego of old is gone, he may make it somewhat competitive, but I think Gilbert takes it decisively. Diego is tough as fuck, so I don't see a finish.

I think Gil wins this fight rather easily. I think he's the better fighter all around and if Sanchez tries to push the pace, Melendez has the cardio and skills to push longer, harder, and faster. I would've always picked Melendez to win this fight but recently with how bad Diego's looked I think it favors Melendez that much more.
