T-City catching straysSilva beats the shit out of Lopes
Yair does not deserve anything. He is 1-2 with his only win against a 40 years old BW and a loss to the ultra bum Brian Ortega
Yeah, Lopes is a tall, rangy guy who fancies himself as a great, almost pure, boxer....and gets outboxed by much shorter 36-year olds who were KO'd in their prior 2 fights. Jean is a lot more diverse and a more dangerous fighter.I think Jean pieces him brutally if this fight happens
I never said anything about Jean needing to be slow tracked instead. I am saying im surprised people seem so sure hes gonna slamdunk on the #1 contender. Weve seen this trend on Sherdog, occasionally it turns out the hype was completely warranted, more often then not it doesn’t turn out that wayI said he needed a higher ranked guy than Mitchell, and heard the same things how it wouldn't be a cakewalk. Yet it was. Silva's been on a tear. UFC used to give guys a title shot in a fight or 2 if they knew they were special. Lopes had a close loss and still got a fast track. I just think it would be fair to give Jean Silva a chance. FW has a bunch of guys who failed their chance. There's just tons of fan support for bringing up slowly. Sure guys like Prates out of the same camp got stopped at Garry, but I think it still sorted out the division pretty well and showed what he needs to work on.
I think he needs 1 more fight before a title to filter him, after that it confirms he's ready for 36 year old Volk. I mean if you think he needs 2, so be it. I just think he has the grappling defense and striking ready for the title shot.I never said anything about Jean needing to be slow tracked instead. Yeah, Volk did very well in his last fight but his time at the top is very limited. He's an old man in a young division and has a style that doesn't typically age well.I think he needs 1 more fight before a title to filter him, after that it confirms he's ready for 36 year old Volk. 1 Max Holloway (Moved to LW)
2 Diego Lopes (Lost titleshot)
3 Ilia Topuria (Moved to LW)
4 Yair Rodriguez (1-1 since losing title shot)
4 Movsar Evloev (should be fighting for title now)
6 Arnold Allen (1-2 and only fights once a year)
7 Brian Ortega (1-2 since losing title shot, he said he's a LW now)
8 Lerone Murphy (good streak, but is atleast 2 fights away from shot)
9 Aljamain Sterling (no idea why he isn't fighting after his loss)
10 Josh Emmett (1-4 and 40 years old)
Basically if you removed everyone who moved to LW (Max, Ortega, Topuria), then Jean Silva's already #7. Evoloev deserves it next, but there's only a few guys who can even be considered. To me the line for a titleshot is Evloev>Jean Silva>Murphy>Allen>Yair, in that order. Lopes went from IGE to Ortega to get his title shot, so I don't think it's wild that Mitchell to Lopes wouldn't be okay for Jean Silva.
He's still pretty well rounded and his chin held against Lopes, but no way he gets through both Evoloev and Jean Silva. But if UFC booked him against Yair, Emmett, Aljo, or Allen, I could see him extending his reign for awhile.Yeah, Volk did very well in his last fight but his time at the top is very limited. With UFC niche being moved from Mexico to Texas and downgraded to a fight night, I strongly doubt the narrative of volk headlining that card against yair. I have hope!
You think he just sits out until the fall and takes either Jean or Movsar? When UFC talking heads themselves were implying Yair? I don't know.
I'm half thinking and half hoping they Ice Volk until novemberish and he fights the winner of Movsar/pico, or Jean if Jean picks up a win this summer.
Which UFC talking heads are implying Yair? And where would they even fight? The only reason that fight was being talked about is because UFC noche was a ppv in mexico, but now that it's a fight night in texas, surely volk won't be headlining it. Yair should fight someone else on UFC noche, like allen or sterling.
I haven't given up hope yet.
If Volk beats Jean in October and Evloev in February then retires. What would that mean for his legacy?
Damn bro, tell us how you really feelWell, Lopes got outboxed by a guy only 1 year younger than Pitbull who was coming off 2 KO losses... and despite having a big reach/height advantage. He also beat Bum Ortega and some other bums to get his title shot.
He also looks like an uglier version of Forrest Griffin with a gay haircut, so there's that.

Evloev would be Jean Silva's toughest test I think. Volk has 2 more defenses to tie Aldo in UFC for defenses on paper. To me it's wild how Volk hasn't fought much of the top 15 besides a few guys because Max was taking them out. So we get to see how he does with new matchups.Even I don't think Volk will beat Jean at this point in his career, so I'm hoping evloev wins this summer and can turn around quick for volks next fight in the fall.
I'm not really sure what it does for Volk's legacy if he somehow manages to beat both of those guys. I guess the fans that still think Aldo is FW goat might give that to volk? It would probably put him up there in top 5 all time goat status with guys like gsp, silva, jones, and fedor. I don't know though. Frankly I don't think volk has much left to prove. I just want the evloev fight and retirement for him.
Lopes vs Jean it is then.Agreed, but if Noche UFC is in Guadalajara, there’s a high chance it’s headlined by Yair vs. Lopes.
