Did you guys know Mike Winklejohn once fought Dennis Alexio of KICKBOXER?

Dude looks like Diego Sanchez.

Damn.

Dennis Alexio was arrested by federal agents at a coffee shop in Aiea on November 21, 2013, and his wife Anitalei was later arrested at their home. The couple was charged with 36 counts of filing false tax claims, wire fraud and money laundering from December 2008 to August 2013. The federal government also accused him of sending false documents to obtain gold bars and coins worth hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars.[33] Both pleaded not guilty and were scheduled to stand trial on the charges in January 2014.[34][35] On January 22, 2016, Alexio was found guilty on 28 counts, including tax fraud, theft and money laundering. He was scheduled to be sentenced on May 5, 2016.[36] On April 27, 2017, Alexio was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.[37] He is serving his sentence at FCI SAFFORD.[

Beat me to it. Alexio is gonna be out of commission for a while. That being said, his greasy mullet and A-Level acting skills will be in circulation forever.

Also, the guy who plays Tong Po in Kickboxer is Moroccan and best buds with the JCVD.

Yes indeed! People forget that WInkeljohn was a beast in his own right back then. Longtime Kenpo Karate fighter. That's why he also teaches that sneaky low knee kick to his students which is a staple of Kenpo (influenced by Southern Chinese Kungfu: Wing Chun, Jow Ga, Crane boxing, etc...)

Yep, I tested for my 2nd degree BB in Kenpo under Winklejons group. I also fought amateur kickboxing using Bill Packers (rip) system/approach. Winklejon was a goddamn legend amongst the AKKA kickboxer and karate community. His cardio and the way they trained in Albuquerque was top-notch, just straight hard work.

I knew this. What I didn't know is that Alexio is currently in federal prison for tax fraud until I checked out his Wikipedia page a couple minutes ago.

They used to air kickboxing at like 1am on saturday nights on the abc affiliate here in chicago. Anyone else remember this? Kickboxing on network tv late saturday nights. Weird. Circa 1987 or so

big pants?

Slow MMA week gang? Feel like a break from reading the 1,378th Conor vs Nate thread of the day?

Never fear, your old pal Rum has just the thread for you.

Now, we've all seen Van Damme's KICKBOXER 70 or 80 times right? We've all been inspired to do our fair share of low-kicking banana palms and doing tai chi in ancient ruins and dancing The JCVD Drunken Dance. And of course we all know who Dennis Alexio is. He's JCVD's brother. The one who grabs that nurse's ass while in his wheelchair. Yep, that cheeky scamp.

But maybe a few might not know he was a legit badass longpants kickboxer in the real world too. I'm talking 68-2 with a metric fuck-ton of KOs legit badass.

And even fewer probably know that one of those brave souls who took on Dennis "The Terminator" Alexio was our very own beloved Mike "Coach Wink" Winklejohn. When you watch this fight keep in mind that the BEAST Coach Wink was facing that day was 25-1 with 23 KOs at the time, his only loss being to the legendary Don "The Dragon" Wilson.

EDIT: Ah crap, looks like they took the video down off YouTube.

EDIT 2: Mad props to @Emanuele for finding a new upload ...

if i rememeber right what made him quit fighting cause he either lose site in one eye or just got hurt really bad.

Was reading up on Alexio, turns out since the 90s he's had some legal problems with bank fraud and tax evasion.

Now you know why Jon Jones got outboxed by a former football player with half the fighting experience.

Fun fact, one of Dennis Alexio's trainers Nasser Niavaroni has a kickboxing gym near my house

The brother, Abdel Qissi, was a professional boxer and played the "Mongolian" fighter in "The Quest".

No, Abdel didn't play in Bloodsport. His brother Michel on the other hand, played in both Bloodsport (as Suan Parades) and in Kickboxer (as Tong Po).
As a little kid, it always used to piss me off that no one ever believed me when it told them that Tong Po and Sun Paredes were played by the same guy, and since we didn't have google for a quick fact-check, I had to walk away frustrated on multiple occasions. <DCrying>
