Slow MMA week gang? Feel like a break from reading the 1,378th Conor vs Nate thread of the day?

Never fear, your old pal Rum has just the thread for you.

Now, we've all seen Van Damme's KICKBOXER 70 or 80 times right? We've all been inspired to do our fair share of low-kicking banana palms and doing tai chi in ancient ruins and dancing The JCVD Drunken Dance. And of course we all know who Dennis Alexio is. He's JCVD's brother. The one who grabs that nurse's ass while in his wheelchair. Yep, that cheeky scamp.

But maybe a few might not know he was a legit badass longpants kickboxer in the real world too. I'm talking 68-2 with a metric fuck-ton of KOs legit badass.

And even fewer probably know that one of those brave souls who took on Dennis "The Terminator" Alexio was our very own beloved Mike "Coach Wink" Winklejohn. When you watch this fight keep in mind that the BEAST Coach Wink was facing that day was 25-1 with 23 KOs at the time, his only loss being to the legendary Don "The Dragon" Wilson.

EDIT: Ah crap, looks like they took the video down off YouTube.

EDIT 2: Mad props to @Emanuele for finding a new upload ...

That's pretty cool actually. Never knew he was a legit kickboxer. Awesome movie better than Bloodsport imo

Very cool stuff. Love that movie and coach wink is badass

Yes indeed! People forget that WInkeljohn was a beast in his own right back then. Longtime Kenpo Karate fighter. That's why he also teaches that sneaky low knee kick to his students which is a staple of Kenpo (influenced by Southern Chinese Kungfu: Wing Chun, Jow Ga, Crane boxing, etc...)

I'm so old I remember Dennis Alexio fighting. I don't know if I saw him fight Winklejohn, though?

I knew he was a bad ass.

Tong Po though... He was a real bad ass, lol.

That fight was badass. I have new found respect for Mike after watching that, thanks for sharing.

I watched Kickboxer last night for the first time in 15 years

Love the commentators on this one.

Yeah I paused it about 3/4 through for a second but this a great fight and the commentary is fun as well in a lot of parts.

Met Dennis Alexio when I was a kid in Hawaii. I attended a TKD camp and he came in to give us pointers. Nice guy.

I remember a story in the Honolulu Advertiser news paper about an arguement Alexio had with some idiot at the beach.
The other guy was smoking and Alexio happened to be sitting near him and asked him to put out the cig. The guy, obviously not knowing
who Alexio was, told Alexio "make me put it out". lol... Pretty sure someone told the dude who Alexio was. The cig got put out real quick..
That guy didn't realize how close to an ass whooping he was..

Alexio became an outlaw and is going to do a long time for thirty-six counts of filing false tax claims, wire fraud, and money laundering from December 2008 to August 2013.

Sucks because it was his generation that got me in to combat sports.

As a kid I met Dennis Alexio in Hawai'i and was amazed how big his hand were. Some of the largest hands I've ever seen.

I liked the part when Alexio smashed him with like 8 brutal clinch uppercuts in the first and the commentators were like "no damage landed so far..." lol

I didn't like watching the fight past the 3rd round though and stopped at the fourth. That was too one-sided. This wasn't even a title fight... I know it was a long time ago and we didn't know then what we know now but Wink took too much abuse in that one after it was clear he was outclassed.
