Did it work out for you and you did well?

Did you end up regretting it?

Would you go back to your old job without any Ego?

I went independent Mortgage broker less than a month ago. Before I was a top performer In my department selling mortgages for a major bank but I wanted more.

It’s a bit scary but there’s been a lot of activity. I have about 10 active deals some have dropped off, nothing funded yet. But I need to have patience and be positive.

Have you read who moved my cheese?

It's pretty much about this.

We had a new boss who on his first day, assigned us all to read that book.

I didn't read it.

What did I miss?
2 mice are in a maze. They live in one part of the maze where there is plenty of cheese. One of the mice notices the cheese supply is dwindling, and he wants to go out and search for more cheese. The other mouse wants to stay put because there's no guarantee they'll find any other cheese out there.

Basically the moral is don't be so afraid to lose what you have that you never go out and try to get more.

The mouse that went out to find more cheese ended up finding a huge mountain of cheese and lived out his life banging LA dimes and benching teh 275

Good for that guy.

But, doesn't it look like both mice won in the end.

One mouse finds a cheese mountain.

The other mouse no longer has to see another mouse eat half his cheese.

Man i hope I find a lot of cheese at my new job.

OP weren’t you just like yesterday telling me how you have a great career?

And yes, I left an awesome job as a university professor to get back into field work in biology and it’s been fucking awesome.

Did you ever start reading it? Because it's not very long and it uses a big font. Been a while since I've read it but I feel like it only took me 20 minutes to read the whole thing.

I read maybe one chapter and just never finished it. it is definitely a thin book it almost looks like a childrens book.

No he didn't, he was killed by the mousetrap on the other side of the maze.

Ha, I think the author of the book is full of shit. In the real world, plenty of people have lost their fortune and job security doing just that. So, when I lose what I had, can I sue the author of the book for giving bad advice?

I have experienced two jobs that I thought would be great, one was and the other was not. I think the same can be said of happy and failed marriages. No one ever gets married thinking things are going to fail.

Everybody can't be the mouse who isn't afraid to lose what he has (because some risks don't pay off). But everybody also can't be the mouse who never risks what he has (because if you don't risk anything you don't gain anything).

Just like in society, in ourselves there has to be a balance of risk-acceptance and risk-aversion. Finding the balance is the hard part.

Any time you change jobs, you're gonna have moments of regret. The new challenges, the disruptions from your established routines, the added stress of suddenly not being as good at the new job as you were in the role you filled for years. It usually comes 4-6 months after transition, when the new hire energy wears off. Oddly enough though, if you stay, you'll have the same reaction.

Why would an employer give employees a book that seems to imply that leaving one job for another unknown job is a good thing?

The story could have just as well ended with the mouse finding a big pile of cheese that was guarded by a cat who eats the mouse.

Where I worked, they didn't hire people that left for another job then tried to come back. Some might learn and be happy with their original job, many will keep looking for that better job.
