Did Little Nog have a better career than either of the Diaz Brothers?

If it the metric is wins, its Lil nog but in every other metric is the Diaz Bros.

I think Lil Nog was a better fighter but he didnt achieve the same kind of success. Diaz bros are known by everyone.

Shamrock, Penn and Sakurai were way over the hump iirc
Shamrock definitely was although to be fair he was champ like 2 weight classes above Nicks primary class of 170.

Penn idk about. In retrospect that was the beginning of his big losing streak but at the time he was only 32 so he wasn’t ancient. He had only lost the 155 belt a year prior after setting the LW record for title defenses. His last outing had been a draw with Fitch who was still a perennial contender at 170, and at that point in his career he had only lost to champions: Edgar, GSP, Hughes, Machida and Pulver.

At the very least that was the beginning of the end for Penn though.

Both Nog brothers acomplished more than either Diaz but the Diaz star power greatly exceeded their talent, especially Nate. Nate is a journeyman and Nick was a top 5 at his peak who didn’t fight.

This is just an odd random dig at the Diaz brothers.

Lil nog doesnt have anything to do with them whatsoever.

Originally, I was going to ask if the Nog bros were more successful in mma than the Diaz bros. But, Big Nog’s career by itself shadows the Diaz careers added together.

Little Nog beat Alistair 2x, Tito, Sakuraba, Hendo, Evans and Guy Mezger.

It’s hard to declare whether Nate or Nick had a better career. I’d lean towards Nick because he was a strike force champ.

Personally, I think that little nog has better wins when you zoom out. But the Diaz brothers were both closer to reaching the best in their correlating weight class.
Yeah.. that was not a great threadpost.
Diaz brothers where greater price fighters because of entertainment but both Nogs are better fighters.
Love them both!

Definitely better than Nate.

Nick is a bit underrated since now people think he is Nate's sidekick or something. He had a really great career, both as an entertainer and he was a pretty threatening fighter stylistically. Nick is very comparable to Lil Nog I think.

Nick's wins against Lawler and Gomi were awesome. Beating Paul Daley wouldn't be a big deal, but the method that he chose to do it was very impressive (out brawling him). He beat the best DREAM had to offer, and I suppose the best PRIDE had to offer too if you consider the Gomi fight.

BJ Penn was not past his prime, or just at the end of it. BJ had a good performance against Jon Fitch a few months before he lost to Nick. Albeit, this was at 170 if I can recall, but still a great win for Diaz.

I don't remember his rivalry with KJ Noons that well, but KJ was a pretty big name back in the day.

While Nick had some gimmie fights against Frank Shamrock and Sakurai, he pretty much fought who ever they put in front of him. He didn't really duck anyone.

Don't sleep on Nick.

Nick was a Strikeforce champ as mentioned but Lil Nog has the better wins. Really though it depends on how you define a better career. Both Diaz Bros are infinitely more popular. I mean, would you rather have the better wins or be more known and famous?

I don’t think it’s the fame

They’re simply bigger stars with larger draws who are able to make more $$$$

They have similar careers. They have many wins against top guys and many losses. They were all capable of beating most of the roster. They all definitely could beat certain champions, like Pettis, Lawler, Alvarez etc.
Lil Nog though is always underestimated, he was never as popular, it would be interesting if he fought Rampage, Forrest, Lidell, Wand etc. It probably had a lot to do with his brother's popularity and 205 had many great names Shogun, Rampage, Wand, Chuck

They all were boxing+bjj style fighters

Come on, yeah Big Nog is one of the all time greats for sure. Lil Nog is underestimated, but Diaz bros were definitely top fighter. Nate got to title shot, beat Conor, beat Mj at his owm gamewhen he was top 5 having wins over Dustin, Edson, Tony. Definitely could beat certain champions like Pettis, Alvarez.
Nick got robbed against Condit, definitely could beat champions like Lawler, Woodley and many top names.
Lil Nog had a similar career with many top wins and many top losses. I think he could beat several champions if he got a chance to fight them

Benson was just mates kryptonite. At that time Nate beats pretty much anyone else at lw. Look how badly he beat cerrone a fight before

Nate is a journeyman. Nick is the much better fighter but had less success because he didn’t fight. Still a lesser calibre fighter than little Nog though.

Nobody even cared about Nate and he lived in his brothers shadow as a jobber until the McGregor fight made him a star. He has a couple top 5 wins and that’s it. The cowboys win IMO is his best other than McGregor. I like him but he’s far less talented than either Nog.

The Diaz brothers are criminally overrated because of their fans. Nick is the better fighter of the two but the truth is they are nowhere near as talented as their fans believe them to be ans neither were ever a threat for the divisions’ elite.
