He's got a nice refrigerator and big dreams...
Some key things to pick up from this interview in short. It's not looking good
Ngannou has no management representing him in boxing or MMA, he has been dealing with the UFC and several other promotions directly
Doesn't believe Boxing or other MMA promotions will demand the same exclusivity the UFC does
Believes Boxing organizations will let him fight one big money fight with no commitment or loyalty
Has no idea what his plan is going forward but ideally wants to compete in boxing and MMA
Wants Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua
Hasn't heard from any major boxing promotions
Mentions later on in the interview when Ariel asks about a Wilder fight that, Ngannou knows about Wilder currently having contract issues with his promoter much similar to his own with the UFC
Asks Francis about any potential match ups outside the UFC that would interest him, which he says "I can't tell, but if i go somewhere we can figure it out". Not a good sign
Boxing works similar to the UFC in the sense that they're going to demand a multi fight deal just like the UFC would. Francis never seemed like the sharpest knife in the drawer, but this is worrying for anyone on the side of Ngannou. You would think he'd have already had another boxing/MMA venture already worked out prior to his exit from the UFC and get on it instantly. But with no management, platform or funding from anything else there's no conceivable way he goes into a negotiation room with an MMA or boxing promotion being his sole and only advocate and doesn't get ripped to shreds or bamboozled. He has seemingly completely and totally fucked himself
Francis is probably close to retirement.
Better off getting a big boxing payday, and maybe a PFL Tournament win... and call it a career and enjoy his money while he still has his senses and doesn't make injuries worse that can fuck with his everyday life (back, knee, etc).
It is a great fucking av.You're av alone makes me agree to everything you said.
I think it was a greed, and unfortunately an ill-advised one.
It was a 8 million GUARANTEED against Jon Jones, and Ngannou likely would have taken very little damage even IF he did lose, but I think Ngannou would have ran through Jon Jones, and I rate Jones as the most talented guy I've ever seen in history of MMA. And there would've been the mainstream exposure by beating someone like Jon Jones and side money off that fight. And I think he would've gone 3-0 in those three fights, whereas boxing will most likely be one off. Even if he somehow lost, he would have likely taken very little damage to his health, but who is really beating him?
He will get a bad beating in boxing, like the worst beating of his last time, and his last ppv did 300k, and they can't use ufc footage to hype up the fight, he can't box, he has no leverage left, and Fury talks a lot of shit. Will that fight even happen, and if it does, will it be necessarily bigger money and will the beating be worth it?
