Did Chris Weidman completely underestimate rockhold ?

If you say this you're taking away from Luke's win.
Chris is a professional
not saying it to take away from luke win he fought amazingly just stating weidman's mentality going into the fight was ridiculous

he was giggling because rockhold kept talking shit when they did staredowns.

something was up with weidman's cardio, that's for sure.
It wasn't the first time, the worst cardio I've ever seen out of Weidmen was the Maia fight

I'm not sure why people keep thinking it started with the wheelkick fail. It was a move of desperation and fatigue, why was he desperate and fatigued, because he was already getting his ass whooped. It's not like the failed attempt that was the end all be all, it's not like he was really too impressive beforehand or avoiding damage. There's a reason the kick was so sloppy...he was already beat.

probably more like he over-estimated himself. i don't think he saw rockhold's top game and wrestling as a threat, and at some point he thought he could catch rockhold with a sloppy spinning heelkick

No, he did the same thing he always does when someone is smack talking him. Smiles and says something like "just try and see how it works out" back to the guy. His MO is to stay calm and collected in the build up to fights and fight night itself.

I think Weidman respected Luke's ability actually.

Changed his strength and conditioning program as he knew he wouldn't finish Luke early. Brought in Mark Henry (Edgar's coach) to improve his striking.

This was the first real trash talk he's been involved in, that's all it was IMO

Hey troll. BJ Penn is retired. He is not remotely relevant to the discussion at hand. The issue is the most recent middleweight title fight. If you want to discuss relevant issues, I will indulge you. I am not interested in a discussion of retired fighters that I once enjoyed watching, irrespective of how truly great BJ Penn was.

You're a troll and I will continue to educate and regulate you each and every time your troll head pops up in response to my posts. No offence to you personally, I just detest all trolls who go around trying to have petty squabbles with other posters on a personal level rather than discussing current, relevant matters.

You don't throw spinning shit like that if you know what Luke Rockhold can do.

TL;DR - Yes. Yes he did.

PS: It seems a doubly strange and troll-like observation to make in this instance, because my point was that Weidman didn't underestimate Rockhold, he was beaten fair and square by the better man. Similarly, when BJ Penn lost the rematch to Georges St Pierre, when BJ lost the rematch to Frankie Edgar, and so on, it wasn't because BJ underestimated them, it was because they were the better technical fighters on the night, GSP was bigger, fitter, stronger, better strategically, more rounded, more varied, etc. BJ knew it was his biggest test, but it wouldn't have mattered even if he had underestimated GSP, or overestimated him, or estimated him perfectly accurately - because GSP was just a better 170lbs fighter than BJ was.

I can readily and easily admit this, because it was obviously true, even though I hated watching BJ get mauled like that. You see, this is what is called 'objectivity'.

Can you admit the same about Rockhold-Weidman? I didn't think so. Because you are a troll. Congratulations.

This. Prediction: he mauls him even worse in a rematch. I don't think Rockhold is letting go of that belt anytime soon, guy is the total package imo.
Yep, A solid wrestler with a solid kicking stand up game. He a nightmare for anyone right now

I think Luke said during the lead up to the fight that "I bet Chris doesn't practice spinning wheel kicks like I do" or something of that sort. Must have irked Chris so he wanted to try it?

Weidman was full of himself and he was not wrong about it...He beat very very dangerous guys one by one but at the end of the day if you re a champion in UFC theres not an easy fight for you...

Yes, a bit. He came in way too small as well. And I'm a Weidman fan. He disappointed me greatly. Still gonna back him on the road back as long as he doesn't show evidence of repeating the same.

So, based on THOSE stills you figure that Weidman was being overconfident? You could have used the exact same stills to present the opposite; that Rockhold was being overconfident.

Weak.

Do you think he'd underestimate someone who destroyed Lyoto Machida? Stop making excuses. It is extremely unlikely that he underestimated Rockhold as due to his achievements in the octagon, you can't underestimate him. Weidman lost and there are no excuses.

No. He finally faced someone who could match his size and strength along with skills to boot. His only true impressive win was Machida and he was already on the decline at that point. AS wins were both fluky. Vitor looked like a WW and Weidman took the easy way out by taking it to the ground.

I hope he can beat Jacare so we can see Weidman Silva 3 but he'll probably end up getting submitted. Jacare is another guy that can match or beat Weidmans size and strength.

"Join the team!" GTFO outta here with that bs
