So i was looking at stills of weidman and rockhold face off i notice that weidman was giggling like child and following the build up closely he completely expected to run through rockhold in his mind he was totally superior in every way. Just check out these photos he was laughing like rockhold was a joke. I don't blame him if you beat anderson twice lyoto machida than smash vitor like a pancake you would feel invincible as well. I think weidman forgot what got him there and just thought he was invincible even to the point he was talking about moving up and fighting jones did weidman underestimate rockhold ?

I don't think so. They were both smiling a bit leading up the fight, likely because they both knew how dangerous the other guy was.

There was more to it than Weidman underestimating Rockhold. Undisclosed injury, IV ban affecting him, death in the family, etc.

He made an unfortunate mistake in the ring, and it cost him. Simple as that.

he was giggling because rockhold kept talking shit when they did staredowns.

something was up with weidman's cardio, that's for sure.

i wouldnt be surprised if something like that was going on - weidman seems like he is kept together w scotch tape at times - but he always fights and doesnt whine, as the fans supposedly appreciate

just listen to the build up what weidman was saying he completely expected to run through rockhold while rockhold had this silent confidents like he knew something we didnt

I believe Rockhold did say he planned to finish him in 3 rounds!

Great topic TS, will watch this one closely. I have nothing to substantiate this, but my "gut feel" at the time was that Weidman in fact underestimated Rockhold in a big way.

it was more than that. the mistake didn't get him straight to mount. and it didn't get him hit alot earlier.

he did not underestimate luke. it would have been ridiculous to do so.

Weidman made a mistake and Luke Rockhold, who is a great fighter, took advantage and capitalized. That's it! There's nothing more to it and I guarantee they both knew that the other was capable of ending it in the blink of an eye.

he beat Anderson Silva twice (reigning MW champion), Lyoto Machida (UFC LHW champion) and Vitor (UFC HW tournament champion and LHW champion). It was probably hard for him to get out of bed for this Luke guy. Plus, seemed like everyone short of McGregor gassed that evening for whatever reason.

No, he was fighting him pretty well and then went for something stupid and paid for it. Don't think it was a case of underestimating, I think he just got caught up in the moment and went for a fight finishing move when he shouldn't have.

Possibly. Rockhold trains with Cain n DC on the regularly he wasn't afraid of Weidman's wrestling like Anderson. IMO Machida feared Weidman's takedowns as well. Belfort just simply didn't even have any TDD.

Rockhold was getting the better of certain exchanges with Weidman prior to the failed kick. How are people not even noticing this? I'm gonna have to create some gifs.

The thing is once Rockhold gets on top of you it's pretty much over, Weidman was doing a good job of staying out of that danger until he made that mistake. You take that mistake out of the equation and it is a different fight for sure.

They were both smiling because of the wolf tickets they'd sold, but I do think the Chris was off that night. I don't think it was underestimation though.
