I remember wanting to become a hacker and go searching through mainframes for confidential information.

Then I looked up how to do it on Lycos and it was just these boring programs that I had no idea how to use. I thought the software was going to be a portal where I could look at what the people were doing on their computers in real time. Wound up getting a virus just by merely looking into it. Go figure.

No. Internet did not exist as we know it when I was a kid.

Not so much a hacker but in the Summer of 91 I went to see T2 in theatre. The scene where John Connor uses that thing to take money out of an atm blew my mind.

I wanted to be a jet fighter pilot when I was a kid tbh.

Learned that not even a few hundreds were needed in Canada,
+ my eyesight disqualified me for this job....

You should have searched for porn instead, would have been more enlightened.

The thing he used to hack the ATM was an Atari device of some kind.....a Lynx, maybe? Always thought that was interesting product placement in 1991 since Atari was getting blown away by Nintendo/Sega in those days.

To be honest I didn't even think about what I wanted to become until I got my highschool diploma.

In late 90's hacking was portrayed as pretty cool in movies. So yeah I thought it would be cool.

For some reason I thought it was Casio but lynx rings a bell. Let me see if I can find it.

edit. You were right my friend. It was Atari.

Any old farts use a Cap'n Crunch whistle to make free phone calls back in the day?
