Diaz and Condits role in the WW division?

Their role? Condenter killers, like Kos and Fitch.

If this is true, this is the best thing that ever happened to the UFC. Suddenly, instead of 2 wrestlers killing contenders, you have 2 brawlers and that means fireworks in the division.

Their role is to keep the true spirit of MMA alive.

F-pointfighting!
WAR fighters!

LOL at people saying Condit being a gatekeeper. Condit will be in title contention again. Loses to GSP and a close fight to Hendricks (which i thought he won) and now he is a gatekeeper? WTF

Both fighters could make another decent run for the title if they work on their weak points - mainly wrestling. I can see Condit making adjustments but who know's if even that is enough to stop GSP/Hendricks...

I can't see Diaz going that extra mile to work on strength/wrestling that he is lacking. The guy is one of the fittest fighters in mma but could you see him bringing in top wrestlers & strength n conditioning coaches to improve his game?

He said after his fight with GSP that his training camp wasn't good - If he's not getting the training he needs then maybe he should go and train somewhere with people that can offer it...It's not like he can't afford it (pending IRS audit)

Everyone keeps dogging Condit regarding his wrestling and emphasizes he needs to get some TDD, but that's a very hard trait to acquire. There's nothing wrong with Condit's grappling, it's in my opinion, he should focus on offensive wrestling because he is absolutely brutal when he gets on top.

Never mind defensive wrestling, because Condit has the scrambling to reverse or sweep, but let's have him pounding on guys on top. To do this, he needs improvement on his offensive grappling. There's nothing wrong with his grappling game at all.

GSP was winning the striking war as well.

One headkick means nothing. GSP's recovery from it means a lot though.

One headkick means nothing? Condit's an unorthodox striker with superb kicks. He catches people with combos by throwing one more punch than they're expecting. He turned his hip right over and GSP had his hands at his waist. It was a beautiful kick and nearly won him the title

role=lay n prayed. wall n stalled. hold and watch clocked

If you read the context of his post and who he replied to it was clear that his statement was addressing the fact that even in the standup, which was over half the fight, GSP was beating COndit pretty handily aside from one single kick landed. And while that kick was substantial and dangerous, one cannot simply assume that if Condit improves his tdd he would be a much bigger threat to GSP since, again, GSP was out-striking him pretty clearly.

That surprised me in their fight, GSP's jab looked amazing!

GSP will need that jab to be as sharp as it can be to beat Hendricks.

Many are writing Hendricks off as Kos part 3 but while there are similarities, Hendricks closes distance far, far better. Condit is pretty awesome at countering and has great movement and yet early Hendricks was still able to dart in and land the punch Condit was so aware was coming.

GSP will be as well coached as it comes. Freddie Roach will put him in the ring versus better boxing versions of Hendricks. The best fight for GSP will be one that looks almost identical to Kos2 with some fans hating GSP's jab fest but that is the best way to keep a power puncher off balance and to win.

Yeah, I kinda fall into that category of writing Johny off, I don't think he has a whole lot for Georges. He relies too much on the big left, in fact I was hoping Condit would beat him so he'd have to go back to the drawing board before facing GSP. I basically see him exactly like a WW Hendo (recent Hendo) although not as ferocious. He'll always do well in a brawl but against the more cerebral fighters I see him struggling. Too many holes to exploit in his stand up and Georges is too painstaking in his preparation to get caught imo. I think it's gonna be a very cautious, very dull main event.

I agree with you that he needs to be particularly careful with Hendricks, but being careful is Georges bread 'n butter. I was far more excited for the Condit titlefight for example. I could envision Condit winning in several ways, I can only see Hendricks winning via flash KO.

I've said this before too about Hendricks closing distance - he covers ground fast early in his fights and his power is fearsome. I wrote him off against Cobdit, and while I feel that fight was very close, I won't write him off again. Hendricks is definitely alive in this fight. Obviously if it goes past 3 Hendricks looks to fade pretty badly, but he has a superb punchers chance.

Both are still dangerous, Diaz for everyone who is overconfident or stupid enough to play his game, or with poor sub defence, and Condit for everyone period.

Diaz' place in the div depends on whether he actually retires and whether he finally acknowledges his wrestling deficiencies and works on them. Condit's place in the div may not even change - two elite wrestlers beat him, but the Jonny fight was close and Condit still matches up well with the rest of the WW top 10. I have said it before, I hope Hendricks takes GSP and we get rounds 4-8 for Condit and Hendricks for the belt 12 months from now.

I'd say Condit's in a better position that Nick at the moment. He's already been a champ at WW technically in both the WEC and UFC (if you count interim titles; I do), and I could see him doing it again if GSP really does decide to hang it up after those 3 or 4 fights like he stated in a interview somewhere on here.

As for Diaz, I'm kind of on the fence. He's got the tools, but I don't believe his heart is in it anymore, and a loss of motivation is a complete killer in terms of vying for the title in any sport.

I don't think Diaz will be in title contention again. If Condit works on his wrestling a little he'll likely stay up there with the top contenders.

They are both still top, tough guys. Both guys have given GSP tough fights (as far as GSP fights go).
