What's the verdict guys?

On one hand diamonds are mined by enslaved kids in Africa, at least according to that DiCaprio movie. Girls love it. The diamond I mean, but most likely DiCaprio too. They're expensive and yet so common.

Whereas moissanite is less costly, has the same physical properties as diamonds. No shady business model and they are so rare on earth (found on meteorites) that they need to be synthesized in labs.

Who wants to buy goods that aren't Slave Labor Certified?

Diamonds will always be “the gold standard”, pun intended.

However, their price comes from being artificially inflated and a great marketing scheme.

I’d buy my girl a moissanite ring but then it’d just be another fake diamond.

I've seen the pawn shop shows where some woman tries to pawn her diamond ring and she goes nuts when they tell her it isn't a diamond. She couldn't tell and her friends couldn't tell. Why spend money on a diamond when most people won't be able to tell the difference? The same with an expensive watch. Experts can't tell the difference between a real Rolex and a fake without opening the case.

The new trend now is to wear silicone rings.

Debeers is the only reason why diamonds are expensive.

I guess it’s about the monetary sacrifice and the status symbol of it.

If you get your girl a big rock, it’s like “look at me”

Honestly it’s pretty stupid. I’d rather do something else with that money, like take a badass vacation.

My wife wanted a moissanite; cost me 2 grand for a rock that looks like a $10k diamond. Works for me.

Tulips

0] At the peak of tulip mania, in February 1637, some single tulip bulbs sold for more than 10 times the annual income of a skilled craftsworker.

Yeah, in a way it's almost worse to try to rationalize a fake alternative to an artificially scarce product of marketing and conflict labour.

Might as well get a cubic zirconia and save yourself the money.

Yup..

But there’s so many way cooler gems anyways. IMO, diamonds aren’t even that pretty.

Cubic zirconia begins to wear off after a couple of years so it's a bad choice imo for wedding rings and things that need last. On the other hand moissanite may be more durable than diamonds.

What do you mean by fake diamond? Moissanite is a stone in its own right.

A moissanite is an artificial diamond, Lincoln. It's Mickey Mouse, mate. Spurious. Not genuine. And it's worth…

fuck all.

Without getting too philosophical, if two objects, one natural and one artificial have the same properties, how can you discern? If you can't discern how can you tell which one is worth something and which one is worthless? Isn't it true that things exist because of their properties and not the other way around? Call it fake or worthless, but if moissanite has the same properties, shouldn't diamonds be worthless too then?

Snatch was the first thing I thought of when I saw Moissanite

I wouldn't be able to tell the difference if the rock was made of glass from a Corona bottle.

Was hoping this was about local strippers or two porn stars and their enthusiasm for their work. Sorely disappointed.

There are so many good looking minerals, I don't know why people are so obsessed with diamonds. They're transparent... literally the most boring one.

Look at that shiny shit. And they're cheaper! Colours motherfucker, COLOURS

I bought my wife a 50k nearly perfect diamond. Found out two years later both the diamond and her boobs and her vagina were fake.

Oh well. Still wood.
