Television Dexter Resurrection

Just watched the first episode. Feels like the original series but with excess use of music (which Showtime wants people to identify with to keep viewership, or do they get paid for advertising IP?).

Batista has to be the dumbest detective ever. Doakes is the Bay Harbor Butcher yet Dexter faked his own death and years later wakes up from a coma in a town ravaged by another serial killer who is totally not Dexter?

Keep watching, he’s just playing along.

Yes and it sucked.

Dexter ended being good after season 4

Couldn't agree more. New Blood was painfully bad and somehow Resurrections is managing to be worse. Such a waste of a stellar cast.

You know what was an order of magnitude worse than any of this though?

The original books, where the "Dark Passenger" was an actual demon possessing Dexter.

Depends on the books. Book 1 and 2 were actually very good.

Season 1 followed book 1 quite closely, but added some flavor

Book 2 was completely different, but was very good. I enjoyed Doakes and Dexter teaming up to face Dr Danko, a special ops torture guy from Doakes past who basically cuts everything off you except your eyes and leaves your legless, armless torso eyelidless, staring into a mirror unable to move or look away. It was dark and brilliant. Horrifying bad guy

Book 3 is what you are talking about and yeah, it goes off the rails. I did enjoy the part about Dexter finding Rita's kids killing animals like he used to and beginning to guide them as Haryy did him, but it was otherwise crap

Book 4 ignores the demon shit and goes back to normal lol but the quality felt like a drop-off.

I stopped there

I enjoyed the books, even the weird Dark Passenger entity stuff. Goofy, but the books were pretty much weird, dark comedy. I think the author was disappointed with a few of those books.

He even starts killing people with Cody and Aster in the books.

Idk, I think the end of the episode says otherwise. I think him stopping Harrison from turning himself in is going to take that relationship in a different direction.
And not sure how Dexter completely changed character? I think if anything, he was back to his old self, the “Bay Harbor Butcher” that we all loved, at a buffet of killers lol.
He changed character by the fact he murdered a policeman, and then started rambling on to Harrison about his plan for them to move away and become some sort of serial killer father and son duo. It was just ridiculous and completely out of character to who he'd been over the entire show up to that point.

Yeah, it's like we're moving onto a bit of a new dimension where it isn't just dark passenger anymore.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the new season. Since you were talking about the new blood season, yeah, I’ll agree with that lol.

The latest episode was great. Did you get the Princess Bride nod? Reply with spoilers.

Inconveivable!

Episode 7 is the best of the season so far.

The dialogue scene between Prater and Dexter is maybe the best scene of the entire show (?).

I couldn’t get into the original when it was out. Had to suspend my beliefs too many times or overlook glaring bad writing/plot holes to get thru it.

Showtime has always been discount HBO to me. It’s like all the shows HBO rejects wind up getting 2nd hand passed down to Showtime.

Fuck people have a hard time letting go.
It's crazy. Season 5 was tolerable. The three seasons after that were straight garbage. Yet those three seasons and two shows later, and people are still hanging on.

It reminds me of people still watching The Walking Dead into Season 11. People, let it go. The show had been dogshit for half a decade at that point. But people hang on so dearly there are even like 10 spinoff series/miniseries, LOL. Sweet Jeebus.

This season is amazing, I can't wait for Fridays. So who's the New York Ripper!? They're clearly building that storyline up for the next season.

The phone calls they played during the talk sounded like the guy Harrison killed to me. Maybe thats why he wasn't at the meetings though Prater had the weapon.

Season 6 and 7 had a few nuggets that were interesting. Like the tooth Fairy killer(Billy Cox was awesome for that one episode lol) and Ray Stevenson being a terminator lol. but it was more garbage than good.

The show writers went off the rails trying to go in unpredictable directions. Captain Matthews character evolution and the tidbits shown indicated that he should have been the one who knew all along that harry taught Dexter to kill and turned a blind eye. But the show writers saw that folks were predicting it and said they felt they had to move in unpredictable directions.

I will say I did finally relent during my vacation and watch new blood and Original Sin and I plan on watching resurrection. its better than everything after season 4 and better than Season 3.

Seasons 1, 2 and 4 still stand alone at the top. but the new shows are probably close to on par with or slightly better than season 3 and 5 and are not dogshit like 6, 7 and 8

I still haven't finished season 8 because it was the worst shit. I tried and never get deep. I just read the coles notes so i could watch new Blood

4 Episodes in, anyone else watching?
My opinion, it’s been really good so far if you’re a fan. Really excited to see how it all turns out.
If you haven’t watched yet and are a fan of the show, fucking get on it!

Can of early Dexter. I'll watch eventually
