Coaching Development of the War Dogs:

Got some more videos. Vegas has been extremely busy this past two months. Fights almost every weekend. I havent been to the gym on a Saturday for over a month.

First was Ian, Ian beat this kid before. And again I feel like he is out-working every kid he fights now, but theres something about his style the judges just dont like:



Then my Southpaw Welterweight Patrick made his Amateur debut. This is the one where essentially everyone in the room told us they thought he won, but the opponent got credit for ineffectively walking forward, I guess:



Logan fought this dude who was a former power lifter. The guy's strength was a problem because he could knock and push Logan off-balance, which made him a bit more cautious than he normally is:



Then came Cristian. He boxed the dude's face off the 1st round and gassed. He hadn't been keeping up with conditioning. Got knocked down (glove touch) for the first time. He struggles with going too fast against Southpaws:

 
I think I’m bringing my little prodigy out for Summerfest. He could win the whole goddamn thing at 119 if he was disciplined enough to be at that weight but he’s 14 years old and I can’t get him to care about nutrition in a way that could put us in that division anymore. Bumping him up to 125.

Han 5 Masters of Southpaw I came in with) just moved his food cart to a new location and is doing absolute bonkers business. He is trying to hire and train people and won’t be ready for that one so it’ll probably just be me and little Kev

What would you say is the big advantage guys have that started boxing early? Mental strength, coordination, ring smarts? What tends to show the most?

Getting used to the system and how to succeed, getting better at dealing with performance anxiety.

This is all depending on the Coach. Assuming they have a good education. It's like experience at any other vocation

I sparred a newcomer with a yellow belt on. Did exactly the same thing I did with everybody else.

Learned who he was (a real fighter) and after that I was on my back foot every sparring session. He was a bit rusty when we first sparred but it was a young guy in His 20s. He just got better cardio and that was enough to mentally get an edge on me.

If I was a fighter I wouldn't want to know who I'm facing based on that experience. I would trust the coach picks the right guy. But of course you do check...can't help it.
 
On the subject of my sparring story

They did a test with a powerlifter where the coach said its X amount of ordinary weight, when it was actually a record. And he lifted it.

It was in a book on the brain.

Yeah sometimes I dont tell my guys who they're in there with so they dont get psyched out too bad. Other times I warn them so they can expect a beating if it's coming. Even if it's not a harsh one but instead more of being shut down.
 
@Sinister My former boxing coach had his pro debut age 39.. first of all crazy late

He lost against a guy who was 0-1 but that guy went on since 2022 to compile a record +2 -21 =2

Does that not seem really suspicious? Those figures?

Had a girl compete in the Junior Olympics finals yesterday. Now, she asked me to be there but I'm not on the corner because she is transitioning from Mayweather Boxing Club to my gym. When they signed her up for the tournament they put the Mayweather Coach down as her 2nd, and then they told me they werent even sure he was going to come. He did, so I stepped aside.

This was a very good fight. She likely lost due mainly to being knocked off-balance a few times, and backing up more than the other girl, despite how much she herself threw and landed. One of the Mayweather Coaches tried to blame myself and her family, he said us saying things between rounds was distracting her so she didn't heed their instructions during the round. Lol She's in the blue corner:
