Derek Brunson vs. Gegard Mousasi

Moose is awesome. Maybe not the best fighter ever, but he is super well rounded and very technically proficient. Almost always exciting to watch and has a very unique personality. Some people just get to triggered but a fighter having some hype
He could never fix his defensive wrestling though. There's no shame in getting td'd by woleidman but it can't still be an exploitable hole in your game this late in your career.

LMAO - get the fuck out of here. Ones an elite (still is) who was 12-3 under zuffa and left on his terms after dusting 5 in a row. They were supposed to fight at 200 and mousasi was a 3-1 favorite ( and this was when Brunson was actually looking decent), Brunson backed out and middleweight mousasi put the lights out of the enormous Thiago Santos....... inside of a few minutes.
Gegard should still be here - he probably wouldve won title then lost it. He just turned 34 over his almost 50 win career and I'd love to see him put a hole through izz's mug ( line would be something like -165/+145 ...and I'd take the dutchman at +145 all day. His prime years are winding down so itd have to happen soon so we wont get to see that)

Brunson - lol , please.

I don't know why gegard never stepped up. There were people like Luke rockhold the samurai, romero, jacare trilogy, pre romero weidman, pre jacare whittaker etc it makes no sense that he was fighting the halls and post prime vitors of this world. Then his fans go on and say he's super great. Goat level even.
Rockhold fight was all but set in stone at about day 75 of gegards 90 day negotiation period ( goats get these kind of periods) and a little bit of cash got in the way.....and I mean a little as from what I understand- mousasi was being rather reasonable. He just fought out his final contract at 7-1 , stopped 5 in a row - finishing off the larger stylistic unfavorable match up in Chris ( who was 1 fight removed from title loss).
Shame-knowing what know now , mousasi wouldve KTFO Luke and probably "probably " wouldve won title.
Who knew ? He wanted to stay with UFC and was vocal about. The UFC spilled the milk and failed to clean it up as they backpedaled and tried but didnt figure on Coker coming in on DAY 91 .

I'm just here to clean a few things up about that whole thing with Gegard.I know a thing or 3 about the mans career.

Watch "UFC 210 ,MOUSASI STEALS SHOW"......you can a better understanding. Every word that came from that mans mouth rang true.

I like t.s but this thread is embarrassing. Derek Brunson, lol.

Made Yoel shat his pants mate!

Should have been a TKO victory for Brunson.

Crapping your pants in a fight is grounds for a TKO loss according to the rules!

I never said Brunson beetz Mousasi.

Mousasi - notable wins: Latifi, Henderson, Santos, Weidman, Belfort, Hall (Overall UFC record 9-3)
Brunson - notable wins: Machida, Hall (Overall UFC record 11-5)

Thread checks out.....

Judging by title and post, I can cry semantics. The meat of the one sentence " could" say otherwise.

Again, they were supposed to fight and this was when Derek was coming off a 2 win fight streak( I believe- I don't know if hes ever had any true decent winning streak). Mousasi was -300 for a reason( before derek backed out /injury).

Not even close

Moose has been a top fighter for over 14 years

His longevity is probably up there with as the best in the game

People forget mousasi fought in pride
Only fighter in UFC history to leave on 5 fight stoppage streak( well 4 and leites murder).
12-3 zuffa, 9-3 UFC..... 7-1 final contract( a fluke one at that which he easily avenged).
You said it best - 17 years as a pro since age 17 and a top fighter for 14 years ...and running.

All those fights, approaching 50 wins, like a 90% win percentage, a perfect 8-0 as a kboxer , just turned 34 and looks 29.

I have to give u this much - you try and shake things up and pretty active in opening topics.....and faced with good ole fashion " being reasonable "- your quite malleable. However, if u truly believe in something ( I'm not talking this thread), stand behind your conviction. You seem like a pretty good dude so don't let anyone give u shit ( including me).

I never got the Moose hype. Always thought he was mediocre. Obviously he’s top 10 UFC, but he is not winning the title. New age Brunson looks pretty damn good. Maybe Moose beats him back before he left UFC, but I think Brunson now smothers him.

For all it's worth, I agree with everything you said. I also believe he'd beat both Brunson and "the samurai". My beef with him is his level of competition. Okay rockhold fight you get a pass, but why was he unable to get a fight and win over guys that mattered. I mean even a fight with Brunson would've been better. His biggest wins were over fighters from way back when with less rounded skill sets. I wanna see how he would do against the kelvima, romeros, gastelums etc. Crushing Carvalho does nothing for me, neither does fighting Leites or old man Henderson. We'll never really know how good he is.

Lol you were right when you said the thread title and maybe first post could be misconstrued. But I wanted it that way.

But make no mistake. There is nothing about Derek Brunson's game that makes me think "that's an impressive fighter" or that he has some great technicalskills. If anything I feel he has overachieved which is pretty respectable in itself.

If he were to have beat Moose I would feel it would be a much bigger fluke than Hall who actually has some technique.

Lol @ anyone putting Derek Bumson in the same category as Moose.

@GoshiShun17 I know Adesanya is your boy and you’re trying to make his wins look better, but I can’t help you out of the deserving flaming you’ll get for this horrible thread.

Derek Bumson is a left hand spamming punching bag who’s ceiling is being a gatekeeper. Moose is champ material.

You have to get the top opposition before you can beat them. When he was ranked 6 or 7 they didn't give him a top 3 opponent but top 10 instead. Maybe the guys in front of him didn't want to fight him? They wouldn't gain much by beating #6 ranked Mousasi. He is as difficult as any other fighter in front of him in the rankings.
