Due to some requests, I decided to make this thread as well. Can't promise it will be updated as frequently since it's fairly lopsided at this point.

No, Bernie, America Was Not Actually Founded ‘on Racist Principles’
he United States, Senator Bernie Sanders declared before a few thousand college students yesterday, was founded “from way back on racist principles.” “That,” he added, after briefly apologizing for bringing the topic up in the first instance, “is a fact — we have come a long way as a nation.” The latter of these two asseverations is not in doubt. Time was when a black American would be beaten, broken, and even skinned alive on the flimsiest of pretexts, while his tormenters were let free without charge. Conservatives occasionally like to wonder aloud what might happen if this nation — or some part of it — were to be taken over by a monstrous and unflinching tyranny. They do not need to treat the question as a hypothetical: To read Ida B. Wells or Victoria Earle Matthews is to know the answer all too well. That Sanders should remind voters of this truth is admirable and necessary. That he should do so in the middle of an ideologically hostile crowd is even more so. One cannot enjoy redemption without guilt, and, on occasion at least, that guilt must be given a name. America has indeed “come a long way.”

I think money has been the smallest issue with our education system and I'm not even one of those "cut the education department" people. I think politicians honestly don't know how to improve the education system at this point and always rely on more funding=better results which hasn't been the case. I think vouchers are worth a try. There would need to be across the board standards that those schools are held to just like a public one.

Why Bernie Sanders Can’t Win
Politics is polarized and a full-throated, angry populism seems to be burning all of the oxygen in the 2016 race. On the right, Donald Trump’s campaign is feeding on rage directed at government, immigrants, and a perceived loss of status in a quickly changing country. On the left, populist standard-bearer Bernie Sanders is packing auditoriums with vitriolic speeches about a “rigged” economic system and the greed of the 1 percent.
Populism can certainly build crowds and sell hats, but can it deliver electoral victories? We’ll leave the GOP to its intramural squabble. We’re focused on whether it could build Democrats majorities up and down the ballot.

This is the only article on politico about the Dem primary for awhile now. Like I said, most of the articles are about Hillary in the GE now.

Elizabeth Warren wins 2015 Sherdog Democratic Strawpoll
o-ELIZABETH-WARREN-facebook.jpg

In another early misstep, the Clinton campaign failed to win the highly prestigious Sherdog Strawpoll. Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren easily captured the majority of votes despite any indication she will begin a presidential campaign. When asked about the win, Warren kept the possibility of running as a Democratic nominee open, saying "No, I will not be running but there is an important issue with Wall Street banks I would like to....". It is not yet clear if Warren will enter the race.

Results
Elizabeth Warren 19
Hillary Clinton 7
Jim Webb 4
Al Gore 4
Joe Biden 1
Andrew Cuomo 1
Martin O'Malley 0
*4 votes to "Other"

What Is Hillary’s Greatest Accomplishment?
hillarylead-1160-ap.jpg

If you want to stump a Democrat, ask them to name an accomplishment of Hillary Clinton,” Carly Fiorina quipped at Wednesday’s Republican debate. The line got hearty applause—but it also cut to the core of one of the defining lines of attacks against the former first lady and Democratic presidential frontrunner. After nearly forty years in public life, what exactly has she accomplished?
It’s a question that even, at times, has tripped up Clinton herself: During her 2014 book tour, when ABC’s Diane Sawyer asked her about her “marquee achievement,” Clinton changed the subject and she fumbled over a similar question during a women’s forum in Manhattan last year. “I see my role as secretary—in fact leadership in general in a democracy—as a relay race. You run the best race you can run, you hand off the baton. Some of what hasn’t been finished may go on to be finished,” she told Thomas Friedman. “I’m very proud of the [economic] stabilization and the really solid leadership that the administration provided that I think now leads us to be able to deal with problems like Ukraine because we’re not so worried about a massive collapse in Europe.”

Ronda Rousey just endorsed Bernie Sanders for president

“I’m voting for Bernie Sanders, because he doesn’t take any corporate money,” Rousey told Maxim. “I don’t think politicians should be allowed to take money for their campaigns from outside interests.”

Lol @ "vitriolic speeches"

Yes, Bernie's a regular Lenin with those awful words about the economic system.

Fuck Politico. I always thought they were somewhat fair. Silly me.

Pressed on Plans to Cut Deficit, Sanders Is Short on Specifics
Senator Bernie Sanders calls himself "one of the major deficit hawks in the United States Congress." But what would he cut as president?

During an interview with Bloomberg's With All Due Respect, the Democratic candidate for president said that he would look to the defense budget for spending cuts and to "make it a much more efficient budget than it is." When pressed for specifics, he pointed to a "variety of weapons systems that are designed to fight the Cold War," including nuclear weapons and aircraft carriers.

He also said the nation needed to rethink the amount of military bases it has in Europe. "I think it is important we review the degree to which we have to defend countries whose middle class is stronger than ours," Sanders said.

From Paris to Iowa: Terror Attacks Reshape Saturday's Democratic Debate
The Paris terror attacks have reshaped Saturday's Democratic presidential debate, sharpening the emphasis on national security and foreign policy issues and altering the landscape for the three candidates who will be taking the stage in Iowa 24 hours after coordinated attacks by gunmen and suicide bombers linked to Islamic State left at least 129 people dead.
The debate at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, follows a day in which Republican presidential candidates pounded President Barack Obama, suggesting that his foreign policy is to blame for the rise of the terror group that claimed responsibility for the Paris killing spree. They have sounded markedly different notes from the contenders at Saturday's debate; on their Twitter feeds after the attack, Democrats Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O'Malley expressed shock, solidarity and hopes for peace.

Democratic Debate Has an Unplanned Theme: Terrorism
15howtowatch-webSUB-master675.jpg

The fight against global terrorism will take center stage Saturday night when Democrats gather in Iowa to debate after the gruesome attacks in Paris that laid bare the kinds of threats the next American president will face.

Well, it's gonna be all Hillary.

Why the hell am I surprised that CBS has relegated Bernie Sanders to the #2 guest on tonight's Colbert show behind some actress of whom I have never heard.

Lol, Bernie Sanders can't even get on the ballot on sherdog.

Who cares about it being democratic/republic?
The same people will control everything.

Not surprising whatsoever.

What is surprising, is that they had him on at all.

DES MOINES -- Bernie Sanders’ campaign said Saturday it was more interested in preserving its full 90 seconds of opening remarks during the second Democratic debate than devoting more time to discussing the terrorist attacks that killed at least 120 people in Paris on Friday.

In a conference call with all three campaigns, debate host CBS suggested changing the format of the forum to create more time for a foreign-policy discussion. But Sanders' team forcefully opposed any changes.

Don't know why Bernie is pushing against this.

Well, it's gonna be all Hillary.

Was tempted to call it the Hillary thread but I don't want the shame of that title if she loses the primary.

Jeb came out after George Clooney. I think it's just a trend with Colbert to have the celebrity first.

Who cares about it being democratic/republic?
The same people will control everything.

Do you come into each thread with one liners about a powerful group controlling everything? If so, I'd like to introduce you to IDL.

How has Bernie's team not better groomed him better for these interviews? At least loosen up your posture, dude. You're not looking presidential here at all.

This is easy. It's Hillary.

There will be no Obama surprise in 2016.

Warren is just another old lady with a more liberal ideology, but she has no natural demographic base, as Obama did in 2008, which she can use to leverage a victory away for Hillary. And I'm not even sure Warren wants to.

Hillary has better ties to the black, Hispanic, and the gender warrior communities than does Warren. She also has more inroads with white Democratic voters than the first-term senator from Massachusetts.

Biden is a joke. His only two runs at the presidency were disasters, and there's no evidence he's suddenly gotten smarter about how to run for the presidency now that he's in his seventies. Hillary is more famous, better-liked among Democrats, and even younger than Biden. The vice president is also prone to gaffes and groping women.

Cuomo, Sanders, Webb? Please. At least get them above a dying heartbeat in the poll of polls before even entertaining this kind of speculation.

Colbert has been far more stern with politicians since his new show. He used to throw punches with his jokes but easy ones to counter. Now it like he doesn't make it as easy for them.

Don't know why Bernie is pushing against this.

He doesn't have his talking points ready.

Plus, if he says "War with ISIS" he loses a lot of the bong water crowd.

...
Too tired to argue.

I've been toying with interactive voting maps like I tend to do in anticipation of an election and it's really kind of sobering in regard to Sanders' chances. I have a hard time surmising a plausible route by which he beats Clinton.

One of the reasons Hillary lost to Obama in 2008 was because many in the Democratic power elite were uncomfortable with her and her husband's cynical use of power. They also saw that George W. Bush's failures were giving the Democratic Party one of those once-in-a-lifetime chances for allowing them to nominate whoever they want and still win the general election handily.

So many started lining up behind the new kid, Barack Obama. They pushed him into the race; they gave him money; and his natural charisma and identity did the rest.

But many Democratic elites have made their peace with Hillary. They also know that 2016 won't be as easy an election as 2008. Yes, Hillary leads by a wide margin against all of hypothetical her GOP opponents, but no other Democratic candidate does well in the head-to-head polls.

I don't believe you

I think this Democratic primary will be a lot like the 2000 Democratic primary in which Al Gore had only one serious opponent (Bill Bradley) and crushed him in all fifty states. The closest Bradley came to winning a primary that year was a four-point loss in New Hampshire.

Hillary might get one serious opponent. Who it will be, I don't know. I wouldn't be surprised, however, if both Warren and Biden decline to run. But I suspect Hillary will crush whoever decides to run against her in all fifty states.

I really enjoyed Colberts interview with Sanders. He definitely has a plan but it's just too left.

I still think America is moderate-left but for some reason every candidate wants to go after their hardcore base.

Webb has some Fox News thing on this weekend with Bret Baier. I think he will be the only serious opponent for Hillary. That doesn't mean he'll come close though. Just enough to keep her on her toes in a few debates.

Damn, Colbert with the straight hitting questions. Haven't seen an honest interview on any of the major stations in years before this one. Stephen kept it very neutral and didn't act the homer on behalf of Sanders. I thought Bernie did really good, but I think he could have explained what a democratic socialist was better for the sake of the masses.

Don't know why Bernie is pushing against this.

Some campaigns get really anal about details like this. It either is the campaign thinks the opens remarks benefit Bernie more than the others because he is still introducing himself to the masses compared to Hillary or that he doesn't want more FP debate since most of his message has been on domestic issues.

More interesting discussion might be who Hillary eventually tabs as her running mate.

-Sen Mark Warner (Va)
-Sen Sherrod Brown (Oh)
-Gov Deval Patrick (Mass)
-HUD Sec. Julian Castro (Tx)
-Gov. Martin O'Mally (Maryland)
-Gov Jay Nixon (Missouri)
-Sen Tim Kaine (Va)
-Gov Brian Schweitzer (Mt)

More lies from Hillary on gun control:

CLINTON: "Since we last debated in Las Vegas, nearly 3,000 people have been killed by guns. Two hundred children have been killed. This is an emergency." She said that in the same period there have been 21 mass shootings, "including one last weekend in Des Moines where three were murdered."

THE FACTS: The claim appears to be unsupported on all counts.

The Gun Violence Archive has recorded 11,485 gun deaths in the U.S. so far this year, an average of just under 1,000 per month, making Clinton's figure appear to be highly exaggerated. The archive had more detailed data for children and teenagers, showing 70 from those age groups killed by firearms since the Democratic candidates debated Oct. 13 - not 200 as she claimed.

Hillary is probably a lock for the presidency if she makes it out the primaries. I thought for a while that because she's a ****, that women wouldn't support her strongly enough. However, that's probably not the right way to look at it. with the way Republicans have split this country right down the middle (well, they've split it slightly to their disfavor actually) with their crazy ideologies, it will not take many independents, enthusiastic feminists, and You Go Girl Republicans to make it impossible for her to lose, barring a string of major campaign disasters or unprecedented election fraud.

I really dislike her though.

Today on Real Time, when discussing whom didn't support the Iraq War, Chris Matthews came up w/ Obama and Howard Dean, Maher didn't give any specific names.....

a question that taylormade for the answer to be: Bernie Sanders, and not a peep. He's fucked

Watched it today.

Half way through maybe.

Bernie stumbled over some of the FP at first but did okay. I think Hillary shined more in FP though I disagreed with the stances as much. Bernie didn't look good talking about domestic issues immediately on the first question being about Paris.

When Bernie when on the attack about corporate donors for Hillary, she had the worst response and completely dodge the question. First point, (this is in response to Bernie), I have a lot of small donors. Second point, I have a majority of women donating to me (okay?). Third point, I was strong the day of 9/11 (umm okay?).

Bernie hitting hard on breaking down banks. O'Malley seeming to be on course with that as well. I really think the majority of both fields agree banks are too large and it's time rethink regulation to allow smaller banks to not go out of business and also to break up the larger chunks.

dems will probably try to avoid another unnecessary loss like 2000.
plus, theres no obama-like dem in the field to gather support.

i love bernie sanders though, fuck killary

Just a personal view. Obviously it's different for everyone.

Do you mean that America is center left compared to you rather than the world? Because American is right compared to the world (heck Obama is centre right compared to the world). If so, are u in the tea party or hitler youth (kidding there).

By world I mean other democracies.

Sanders Casts Democratic Socialism in American Terms
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders outlined his vision Thursday for bringing democratic socialism to America, linking it to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s belief that “real freedom must include economic security.”
A self-described democratic socialist now seeking the presidential nomination for the Democratic party, Sanders used the speech at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., to argue that the legacy of that ideology lies at the center of American history, beginning with Roosevelt’s “second Bill of Rights.”
“Everything he proposed, almost every program, every idea he introduced, was called socialist,” the Vermont senator said of ideas including social security, the right to collective bargaining, and federal deposit insurance.

I would be shocked if either of them ran. Warren might use the spotlight to raise some issues she cares about, but she is unelectable, and I mean that as a huge compliment. Biden had his fun, I think he's ready to ride off into the sunset in a '67 Camaro blaring Springsteen. I still think someone will push Hillary a little, but not to the point there result is ever in doubt. It's going to be a depressing year, I'll be hate watching Fox News a lot.

Webb has some Fox News thing on this weekend with Bret Baier. I think he will be the only serious opponent for Hillary. That doesn't mean he'll come close though. Just enough to keep her on her toes in a few debates.

Yeah, that's my bet as well. Webb could win a general election, but he's not going to waste his time battling Hillary tooth and nail.

dems will probably try to avoid another unnecessary loss like 2000.

Bernie is my favorite of them too, but I know he wouldn't gain much steam, I felt the same way about Kucinich in '08, I liked his ideas, his speaking, his smoking hot wife, but I knew deep down he was never going to win the primary.

Hillary Clinton Goes Beyond President Obama in Plan to Defeat ISIS
Hillary Rodham Clinton called on Thursday for accelerating the American-led operation to defeat the Islamic State, going well beyond what President Obama has proposed by urging a no-fly zone with coalition forces to protect Syrians, more airstrikes and an expanded deployment of special operations troops to assist local ground forces.

“Our goal is not to deter or contain ISIS, but to defeat and destroy ISIS,” Mrs. Clinton said, using an acronym for the Islamic State group and distancing herself from Mr. Obama’s much-derided contention, a day before the Nov. 13 attack in Paris, that the group had been geographically “contained.”

Bernie Sanders not eager to ‘tilt at windmills’ in 2016
150222_bernie_sanders_ap_1160_956x519.jpg
Vermont Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders has been in Iowa again, railing against the Koch brothers, calling for economic justice and trying to gauge whether there’s enough grassroots support for a presidential run.
Sanders didn’t mention the presumed Democratic frontrunner, Hillary Clinton, by name in an interview that aired Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” but said, if he decides to seek the White House, he isn’t sure he would run as a Democrat.

Sorry I should be more clear. I'm basing my opinion by comparing now to past Presidential Administrations: born in 85 so I remember Bush I Clinton Bush II.

Those times were moderate imo. Compared to the rest of the world, like you say... I really don't know. Yea, America maybe right compared to the rest of the world, but compared to what we were in the 1990"s and early 2000s, we have shifted left.

How can you NOT vote for this?

This one's for you TS

My word. I had to attend an hour-long mandatory seminar on character fitness as pertains to Bar licensing (pretty much "cheating's bad mkay?") and I bitched after that. Five days a week sounds excruciating.

Bear in mind that the majority of students come from strictly evangelical homes where it is common to attend church several, or sometimes even all, days of the week. I.e. most of them are used to it already.

I like Sanders (from what little I know of him) but I'll be very surprised if he wins the nomination; but if he does, I think it's practically a certainty that any non-Trump Republican candidate will win. The Clinton and Bush Dynasties have set the blueprint for campaigning (as evidenced by the success of our own Prime Minister who got elected and stayed in office by copying the Bush Jr. playbook.

You need lots of money and very few scruples. Sanders appears to have those quantities reversed.

Hoping Warren runs. I think she's great but I doubt she will run. I don't like Hillary but she's a far better choice than the GOP candidates at this point.

I don't believe you

Do I have a reason to lie?

The way I see it:

Likely Bernie: Iowa, New Hampshire, Vermont, Washington, Maine, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Oregon
Electoral total of 72

Strong Hillary: Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, New Mexico
Electoral total of 114

This is all conjecture, and the states given to Bernie are MUCH more generous than those given to Clinton.

Here are the states I could see feasibly going to Bernie as well: Ohio, Indiana, Colorado, California, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Delaware
That would rate his total to 224.

It's hard for me to envision him breaking past that point, which is already pretty generous towards his campaign.
