Demian Maia is 0-3 for the first time in his career. Is he in danger of being cut?

I think the UFC has made it clear at times in the past that they don't love Demian Maia's style. Much like Jon Fitch when he was in the UFC, Maia has always had to work very hard to get title shots and has been passed over for other contenders despite winning several fights in a row.

Now he's 40 years old and 0-3 in his last three.

Out of respect I don't think the UFC will pull the trigger just yet, but if he loses one more then could he be headed either for retirement or Bellator?

His name is big enough to get another chance

They'll give him a lay-up next..Could be curtains if he blows it tho

If his contract is up I wouldn't be surprised. If he doesn't get the finish his fights are usually pretty boring

Considering he did take the fight on short notice, I think he'll get at least one more chance.

But if he loses his next fight? Hmm. . .

He might need to have bags packed just in case.

I disagree I feel like he gets title shots without ever really defeating a top contender going on long win streaks against average UFC opponents shouldn't earn you a TS imo.

No way. They'll at least utilize him for the length of his contract before they let Bellator take him to match up with Jon Fitch in a "barnburner" legend fight. Although I'm not sure how many fights Maia has left on his current contract

He said when his contract is up he will retire.

He renegotiated his contract prior to taking this fight. He also had fights left on his contract prior to renegotiating. I imagine he was compensated for doing the UFC a favor

Maia has 3 fights left. Signed 4 fight deal before usman fight

I think name value holds more than record these days. Il still tune in to see maia fight, because hes one of the best at what he does.

They can cut him at any time, though. They don't legally have to wait for his contract to run out.

No fighter has ever gone 0-6 in the UFC I don't think.

No but he should seriously consider calling it a career. Maybe take a safe fight so he can ride out into the sunset on a win.

he can go to bellator and lose to Rory

I think Maia has the UFC respect to give Maia the chance to fight out his contract. I think he has 2 fights left. Maia said he wants to retire when his contract is over. Lets just see if the UFC let's him fight his whole contract. I personally think they'll let maia do that. Maia is a respected UFC vet.

He won't be cut, its not like he was embarrassed or finished in any of those 3 fights, he simply couldn't work his gameplan, and they were 3 very similar opponents, UFC set him up to fail with that matchmaking.

Hope not. Maia takes fights on short notice, a well known name to help build others or gatekeeper for those not ready for contention path. Though this should be final chapter in UFC for Maia. His title chances faded.

He should just retire.
