Deer Meat

You can get it shipped on ice. Specialty shops should carry it as well.
Call your local hunting group and ask around. Even guys in the city hunt.... Just get in and buy a tag for a deer, they shoot it and process it for you.... for a fee of course. I pay for a deer tag (hunting permit) each year. Give it to a buddy, so he has 2 tags. He will process the meat, I give him half the deer.

This is illegal in Michigan, can't speak for elsewhere.

I don't think I've ever had deer meat, although I'd like to try some.

It is against the law to sell wild game, but it isn't against the law to raise deer and sell the meat so I would say look in the phone book for a deer farm you might get lucky and find one

What is illegal? I'm guessing you mean tagging someone's deer that is not your own? I would think that is illegal everywhere. My buddy just gives me the $24 and I buy the tag in my name and give him the deer because he doesn't hunt. I don't think that would be illegal.

No "swap-age" of tags whatsoever in Michigan. Your tags are non-transferable.

I'm not sure what your reasons are for trying to get your hands on some tasty venison, but if you're looking for a very lean red meat, I'd recommend buffalo. My buddy's dad is a buffalo meat salesmen, so I got the whole pitch about it. It's apparently almost as lean as chicken but with more protein, creatine, etc. and easier to get your hands on than venison. At least in MN it is...idk if there are bison farms elsewhere. Also, you really should get out and shoot a deer, just for the life experience. It really is quite a thing

I think Bison(american buffalo)farms are getting pretty common throughout Middle america. Another source I didn't think about for deer, is people who raise coursing dogs sometime also raise deer to feed the coyotes they use for pratice. Actually have a freind who does that. Theres a deer farm down the road from me(although I think he only sells to game farms) and a Bison ranch about 15 miles away so they are out there if you look.

Foz
what kind of deer do you all have there. We only have white tail, and further west Mule Deer. I also wonder if all the differnt species food values are the similar.

I prefer chicken meat and cow meat to deer meat. In fact, I'd even rather eat pig meat. I likes me some meat....

I like whale.

Actually, I don't. It tastes like what it is, elephant of the sea.

Grouse on the other hand, mighty tasty cooked on a BBQ or hot campfire - wrapped in foil with some butter, garlic, and herbs. They're fun to shoot too, far easier to clean than deer.

Just out of curiosity, what do most of the hunters here do with the skins?

Where I live it's illegal to sell venison so you have to kill one yourself.

Everytime I come in D & S and see this thread I first think it's going to be an ode to meat, but then I notice it's deer and not dear. Fun times.
