Debating on what car to get next month: Toyota or Jeep?

What your general budget and I'll give you some interesting options?

Budget is probably between 17k-27k. Would love to have an slightly older Audi or a Beamer being a single guy but I'm not down to eat mac and cheese for 7 years just to try and look cool

4 runner huh?

I've heard some good things those but I'm not too familiar. You ever own one?
I have a 4Runner and it's great. Super reliable, plenty of room, 4WD, towing, etc. Only problem is the acceleration isn't great but I'm guessing the Jeep would have the same issue.

Edit: I have done some aftermarket upgrades including suspension and lift for off-roading and that's another advantage is there's a huge market for and choices of aftermarket stuff for 4Runners.

Never understood folks that love jeep wranglers. I bought one 5 years ago as everyone raved about them. The most uncomfortable ride I have ever had. A small crack in road feels like a speed bump.
Depends on what you're using it for. A friend of my camps a lot and she likes taking it off road, which I feel is the case for most Wrangler owners.

I'd recommend a used lexus GX470,

It's basically a good version of the Cherokee.

If gas mileage isn't a big conceren (and it shouldn't be, do the math), get used landcrusider 80 or 100 series

The late model 4runners are nice, but they are just as expensive used as a landcruiser and arent' built nearly as well.

My dad tried for years to beat his Corolla to death but never succeeded. He put nearly 400k on it. At 250k he broke a key off in the ignition. His fault, not the car's. He removed the collar and the key cylinder and after that you could start it with a screwdriver. He never did anything above changing the oil and ended up selling it at a yard sale for $500.

We put 300k on my wife's Sequoia and, other than regular maintenance, I put a $30 thermostat on it once. Sold it to a friend to use for tailgating.

I had a Grand Cherokee. It was fun to drive but the finishes were nothing like the quality of a Toyota and it didn't hold up as well. This is what I have now, only with different side steps. It's awesome in every way.

Agree with the 4 runner.

4runner fans should take a good look at used low mileage landcrusiers... there's a reason why the landcruiser cost twice as much as a 4runner new. On the used market the prices are a lot closer which makes the LC a much better deal.

The correct answer is 4Runner, don't fuck this up TS.

That's like choosing between watching BKF or a UFC PPV card.

Get a Toyota.

You're considering buying a Chrysler product? As wise man once said " endless Money Pit".

Yeah. Thing is, no one I know has a Grand Cherokee and that should have been the first clue as to which car to get. But like I said, it was a car I always wanted and now I have the budget to have one.

That is a sweet looking truck btw

Any love for a Jeep is for Jeeps from days gone past. I know someone that has a '99 Cherokee Sport and that thing still runs believe it or not. As a company, Jeep's currently getting that Italian Fiat deep dicking.

Hell, the Jeep Renegade is basically a Fiat 500X (both made in the same factory in Italy).

Italian cars vs Japanese? C'mon son...

Also, surprised no one's posted this classic yet:

Thanks. I loved my Jeep, don't get me wrong. I looked at a Wrangler before buying my Taco last year, despite my love for Toyotas because the Wrangler looks so fun. But the interior is too boxy for my taste and Toyotas hold their value like virtually nothing else. I should add that I'm an IE and work for a tier 1 supplier. The difference between Toyota quality control and Chrysler is a million miles. Not even remotely close.

At this point, any car that is not Japanese made wont last as long. This is not even including simple maintenance.
