True Fedor definitely got sloppy with his grappling in his latter years(although Herb didn't help here not calling shots to the back of the head, maybe he should have just soccer kicked Hendo into obvilion instead?)) and its what cost him the fights even if he was also not looking quite as good standing anymore.

DC is a better pure wrestler than Fedor ever was but I think his problem really is that he does stick to a very conventional less dyamatic style than Fedor did. His boxing is good by MMA standards as well but its never been very dymatic and indeed he has always looked vulnerable to kickboxing in a way Fedor never did having worked with the best in the Neatherlands to round his game.

Offencive as well Cormier needs to get into the pocket to really hurt people with his boxing and that's just what Jones is very good at avoiding moving between long range and the clinch. Fedor on the other hand had longer reach, was a lot faster and was great at timing punches from mid/long range, you watch ther 3rd Nog fight for example and this is really how he wins it taking Nog apart from outside his boxing range and taking him down whenever he looks to get forward.
 
Cormier did the same thing that Fedor did. The difference is that Jones threw a snap-kick, snapping it over the shoulder (along with the guard) so it didn't follow the same path of a muaythai kick which comes up diagonally- which allows you to block it downwards.

Not as pretty as when Wonderboy does it, but definitely just as effective.

Jones had been literally setting up that kick the entire fight by beating Cormier to the body and legs with kicks. Cormier thought yet another kick was going to his lower body and that's when Jones went high. Whereas, we ALL knew CC was throwing a high kick, he didn't mix up or set up the kick nearly as much. To add to that DC is about inches shorter then Jones.

Blocking and countering a LHK from an opponent who is known to spam them (Cro Cop) is NOT impressive. We all knew the LHK was coming, to add to that Jones disguised the head kick by attacking the body and legs of DC in the first 2 rounds, then threw the head kick which DC thought was yet another body or leg attack.
 
When he reads this thread, boy, will he be embarrassed he didn't know how.
