Dealing with MC Dojos ...

I do not see what is the problem?

Do they claim do they have any rank in BJJ?
No.

Do they claim do give formal rank in BJJ?
No.

I think you should go ask them if they want to pay you to teach the submission grappling class for them.

It will just be a feeder group/puppet club from which the kids that are really keen in BJJ will end up training at your HQ. It is a win win solution.

Hell I would even throw in a couple of free months of teaching to close the deal.

I'd like to start a tv show called "McDojo Invasion with Rousimar Palhares"

Naw, it should have Rickson. He just goes into the corner and does his weird breathing exercise and everyone's head starts to explode.

Come on guys, is this any different than "teaching Judo" at a BJJ school?

Just playing devil's advocate :icon_chee

well, most guys that are doing bjj are former judo guys or trained both forms, so i really wouldn't see the problem there

If somebody claims to be something they're not, that makes them frauds... same goes for teaching... the end.

I just hate when BJJ teachers try to show Judo throws when Judoka are in the class then try to correct them when they are showing a throw wrong such as using your hip to throw with Tai Otoshi then telling me I'm wrong because I'm not using my hip..:icon_conf

Give the specific infor the the OG. If they have a website, all the better. Leave it in the hands of the professionals.

just cheked their website... kajukenbo it looks like it will be the next krav maga... I cant stop laughing about the history of those deadly martial arts only design to kill...

Fuck playing nice guys, go check the class out before doing anything, but if they totally suck, dojo storm! (or you can leave it on the hads of the UG grounds)....

edit: just saw the episode of jekujenbo on fight quest.... as silly that show is, that was pretty ridiculous, going into a undeground fighting circuit a la fight club, and trying to make it look for real... who the fuck buys that piece of shit?

Send this to the UG or bullshido. They'll take care of this.

i use to train at a place like that, u start off with a $125/month contract for 30 mins of training 2x a week until ur promoted to ur "ultimate training" which is 15 minutes more after class but u have to upgrade ur contract to 150/month for 36 months. luckily i was in a motorcycle wreck (lol) and the doctor got me out of the contract til i coud join gracie barra but its funny where i could still be, also funny to see all the other mcdojos ripping unknowing ppl off

yeah, it seems like a hybrid or electic MA from the 40's. From that time, I am sure that it has basically turned into bad karate/TKD. those vids were kinda lame too, esp sine this is 2011, and not 2002.

What kind of place has only 30 minute classes? What can you do in 30 minutes? Even 45 minutes is ridiculous. 1 hour is the minimum acceptable class length, IMO.

Ask for a trial period of 1 week. Play nice. On your last practice day choke as many as possible out and put the monthly fee on the last one's unconscious body.

dude, i'd so go miyamoto musashi on their ass. just walk in there wearing a gi and duel the ronald mcdonald of the mcdojo. it's that simple. either you choke him out/break something or he does that to you. if the latter occurs then you know your eyes have fooled you into thinking it was a mcdojo.

You don't deal with mcdojos. The only thing you should do is not go there.

Just because you feel like you have to go over there and show everyone they are wasting their time with a bad bjj instructor doesn't mean it's the right thing to do.

We do a 20 minute warmup, so after that we would be shown one technique and not even have time to practice it, forget the hour of live rolling at the end...lol

The video proves a point, but Shaffer is sooo full of sh!t in that video it isn't even funny!!!

Couple weeks of striking training and a month of BJJ huh?:icon_neut

This is fine when the school held a tournament open to outside competitors. Its not like Red just brought some boys and just busted up into someones gym and challenged the instructor.

This whole idea of dojo storming is a bit imature in my opinion. If you follow that logic all the K-1 kick boxers should be dojo storming all of the karate schools and what not to make sure they are legit. Get over it, alot of these kind of schools are catering to family people and kids who really have no desire to compete or fight mma who cares.

The gracies issued challange matches to prove the effectivness of bjj against other arts. Now people are recomending to do it to prove your gym is more legit at teaching bjj.

I would recomend just focusing on your own deal and not worry about what other people are doing. We have the same thing here "Mcdojo" style karate schools offering bjj as part of their program. We also have a "legit" gym that has bjj and mma and have had succesfull competitors in both. I say more power to them both. Does either take away from us? I don't think so I think they attract different kinds of people that have different goals and motivations.

P.S. I'm not really sure of the deffinition of Mcdojo. I assume a franchised type karate school?

I don't necessarily see a problem with invasions or "dojo storms" or whatever you choose to call it, as long as it is done in a respectful manner. You attend their class as guests, and simply ask to spar with the instructor and/or the top students during that portion of the class. It's really as much for people to see how their training measures up as it is to verify if a school is "legit".

Also sometimes referred to as a "belt factory". A McDojo is a martial arts school in which the primary focus is on making money, as opposed to the quality of instruction.
