Dealing With Depression

It usually hits me when I'm bored.

Most of it comes losing family to early in life, friends moving away and silly as this may sound to some of you but things I used to like to go to like Borders, video rental stores or hang out spots that are gone bother me a little bit.

Do any feel like this some times.
hell ya, only much worse than just a little bit. Family issues I've never gotten past, my brother is finally having to be hospitalized but I've been depressed about where he was headed for a long time.

I have had chronic depression to varying degrees since the late 90s.

There are days it feels so dark.

And yeah I do miss the past at times.

Times from my childhood were you feel just going to the arcade is some great adventure.

been dealing with depression most of my life, it truly is a bitch. you just have to focus on the important things like whats your true purpose in this life? how will you, if ever, achieve true inner peace? why the fuck do they call a hotdog a glizzy?

things of that nature. asking these sorts of questions to yourself makes you realize how insignificant your other thoughts are.

TS is probably young. You won't feel much passed at a certain point. Don't worry. There's a reason old people have no filter.

Theres also something called learned helplessness.

What I find interesting about most suggestions for dealing with depression is about drowning it out. Work out, distract yourself with media consumption, etc. Sure there is a time and a place for these things. And exercise isn't the worst thing you can do as a distraction. But the problem is that then you're constantly being chased and trying to run away from feeling whatever it is you're feeling.

I find meditation to help immensely. Feel whatever you feel and let it pass. Observe your own thoughts and feelings. Don't identity with them or fight them. Just watch. This may give you a peace of mind.

Journaling or some sort of creative expression is also helpful. Use what you're feeling and turn it into something creative.

You also have to take action to change your environment and circumstance. Sometimes depression is caused by or at least aggravated if you're in a situation you perceive as shitty.

I have found you have to find something to do that will guarantee a lot of time wasted. For example:

I have decided to dedicate my entire life to organizing and categorizing my collection of pornography. Literally cannot in my lifetime see it all, but I'mma try my darnedest, DAGNABIT!!!
