Deadlifts and milkshakes

It was one of the highlights of my trip out east to meet you guys. It made me very happy.

Ohmygod, we went and ate CRAB CAKES. I ATE SIX. I wanted to tell you this.

Jealous.....

i need to crash one of these tiny people reunions one of these days :D

Dude I really need to make another trip up to Nashville so I can have the honors of lifting in your dungeon gym.

And talk shit about Ohio State.

Damn, I can't wait til I can squat 160. It seems so far away. Good job squating, it hurt watching that. Also, very cool that you got to meet up with those guys and work out.

Everyone needs to just come to Cincinnati. I've already got BE on board over xmas now everyone else needs to come too.

Would it be totally inappropriate to plan a Sherdog S&P meet and Lift? somewhere central?

I had planned on hitting up Iowa State uni gym to meet a friend but he is leaving in December so now my in is out! But I would totally make an effort if I knew people were planning on meeting and lifting somewhere! A weekend getaway of lifting, learning and a few drinks in between would rock!

BE and I train at the University of Iowa.

Our team trains at an empty rec building on Sundays. All are welcome. Just let us know you're making the trip in advance.

If I was an eccentric billionaire I'd pay to fly everyone to some sweet gym and lift together. Sadly I'm not a billionaire, nor eccentric. Congrats on the PR though!

Good to hear the wedding plans are coming along well. I have to admit that even though it was sometimes stressful I look pack on the planning process fondly. It was a lot of fun most of the time and the actual day was amazing.

If I can give you one piece of advice it would be to be incredibly anal and detailed about everything beforehand. My wife and I wrote up a schedule for the days surrounding our wedding (We got married on a Sunday and the schedule went from Fri->Mon I think) and it was a huge help. The last thing you want on your wedding day is people asking you a million questions.

Good advice! I am not actually married (How awful, lifetime of engagement). We keep planning and then unplanning because of other prorities... We have kids so I think it has suffered relegatiuon on the priority list at this point. BUT If we do decide to finally tie the knot I will keep this in mind!

Also I am sure we can muster up a few of us for a meet and lift in Charana some time, no? It would just be nice to have people you can bounce ideas and support off of!

For all the U.S. lifters, I live in Oklahoma, so I'm pretty sure I live in the middle of all of us. So you guys should come here:icon_twis

Thanks! That second rep definitely was challenging. My upper back has been slightly tweaked since that day.

You'll be squatting 160 in no time. It has taken me a long time to get to this point but I've also has had many injuries and breaks. Be consistent and keep doing what you're doing and you'll get there! The squat can be so frustrating but now its my favorite lift!

I echo your sentiment!

Awesome lifting WC, glad you all got to train together. And congratulations on the engagement!

Thanks Tank!

I agree everyone. We SHOULD all meet up to train or compete together. I'm probably the farthest away from everyone being in New York!

In other news, I did not train today. BUT I did convince my Mom to learn how to squat. I was so excited I thought I would cry. I went to the gym she goes to and found the lone squat rack in an enormous gym filled with machines. We practiced a lot of body weight squats and she has a very hard time squatting deep due to flexibility issues. I got her to squat the bar for a few sets of 5 and she did some assisted pull ups. I plan on writing up a program for her and hoping she'll stick to it. This is like, top 3 on my list of happiest moments of my life. I worry about her health so much and just hope this helps her get on a healthy path.

I might log her stuff every now and then in case anyone is interested to see what it would be like to train people like my mom. Her starting BW is 209 at 5'6". Her short term goals are to do a chin up, squat the bar for a 5 x 5, and lose weight so that she can fit into a mother-of-the-bride dress.

Oh man, this is really nice to read! I'm REALLY excited about this--could you tell her that for me? She's doing the BEST thing for herself (and her bone health, among other things, which past the age of 40 is so crucial for women--hell, before 40 it is too...) and she CAN fix mobility issues.

My mother suffered major back injuries from a car accident that occurred in her 20's or early 30's. One side of her back atrophied so badly in comparison to the other side (largely the spinal erectors, who knows what else) that she now has a seriously messed-up back that is turning into nerve issues extending down her legs. At this point, I'm not sure it would be possible to get her lifting to the point of fixing the issue. I wish someone more experienced in sports injury rehabilitation would have worked with her and had her work into squats and pulling in her recovery from the accident--I would bet money her physical status would not be what it is today had she done so. I wish more than anything I could start her on some sort of lifting plan today. I have many theories about lifting and the aging process, and one of them is that it can reverse many of the degenerative neurological issues that start to occur among some individuals. If nothing else, this endeavor WILL help your mom metabolize what she eats better and coupled with a modified eating plan, I would guarantee shape change and/or weight loss.

Sorry to hear your Mom had to go through that Janis. Hope she can someday get into lifting! My mom experienced her first case of DOMS today.

I don't think I've mentioned this in my log but our PL team held a mock-meet on campus today. It was bench and deadlift only. I lifted at 132.

I went for 6 for 6 so my nickname "red light" can be replaced with something more awesome.

Bench
100
110
115 (5 lb paused PR)

Deadlift
205
235
245 (ammonia PR and 5 lb PR)

Pretty psyched about my performance. I wasn't nervous at all and for once I made ALL of my lifts.

Got a champion t-shirt for winning in my weight class and was the strongest woman in the competition. BOO YAH!

I don't have my lifts on film but they might have been captured by others in the crowd. Stay tuned!

Great job, WC! Use this as a confidence builder for your next big meet!
