Deadlifts and milkshakes

I just use my jansport backpack and throw dumbells in it for pull ups. I have had that thing for 8 years and it's still holdin' up despite me recently using it for that purpose. Also I'm pretty sure you're strong than my roommate... he can only do 5 chin ups at a time :icon_chee


That's a good idea and I feel stupid for not thinking of that!

And yeah, my chin ups are definitely ruining some men's egos at the climbing gym. But they certainly didn't come naturally to me, before I started lifting, all I did was chins for a year straight.

BJJ..FINALLY!

I haven't gone to jiu jitsu in a few weeks because of bum knee/spring break/extreme laziness...but I'm back in the game now!

Overall it was a shitty day. Wasn't happy in school and couldn't wait to finally get some training in. I went to open the gym and let everyone in and we waited for about 15 minutes with no instructor. I ended up having to direct the class (frightening thought) so I made everyone practice armbars and triangles. I noticed everyone was fucking around and not taking it seriously so I decided we should just roll.

I rolled with the girl that I mentioned in my previous log, she is still a beast and she makes me feel like an infant. Makes me kinda regret how much I've been slacking with the jitsu. She ended up tapping with me a choke I've never learned before...she just pushed my arm using my elbow across my throat and was pulling it through from the other side? Anyone know what that's called so I can look it up?

Finished the day with what felt like a 10 minute roll with a very out of shape man. He was a neck cranking, huffer and puffer but weak as shit guy. I wasn't trying to go for any submissions, was just working on reguarding the whole time. He tried to get me in armbars over and over but just wasn't doing it right and I could easily get out of them. He also got my back and tried to choke me but couldn't...never had someone get on my back and NOT actually be able to finish a choke lol He really pissed me off because while we were rolling he would talk to me and at one point said, "That's not a bad move for a girl":icon_twis Overall, I am not happy with how today went...BUT I will make it better next time.

So, you've been doing BJJ how long and were the highest ranked student there? Nice.

BJJ since January...and I am certainly not the highest ranked. It's a club at my college and I'm the President so I take over when my idiot instructor doesn't show up. I probably should have just told everyone to go home because there were a lot of guys acting like idiots trying to be the new alpha male. There's a new guy that is enormous and he felt the need to put a guy in a meat locker and carry him around....sighhh...men.
 
Oh, ok. That's cool, though. Getting to roll is usually better than not, IMO.

I hurt my shoulder in jiu jitsu last night, it kills this morning...no bench press for today!
I am just a walking injury right now.

Started the morning off with the conditionnig challenge (box jumps)
Did sets of 30 with rests in between for about 10 minutes. The rests got progressively longer and longer towards the end. I was sweating my ars off by the end.

4 mile bike ride with knee brace, fairly pleasant ride.

Really happy with my deadlifts today. 205 was my goal for the end of 2010.

Tried to do squats but my knee didn't feel 100%


EDIT wanted to add...I drank a huge cup of black tea that made me feel wired for the workout. I always pull more weight when I consume caffeine but the night of I feel anxious/jittery...I always regret drinking it.

Congrats on the DL PR.


I would try to line up your feet a bit more so that your legs are parallel to each other and perpendicular to the floor. Look at how your left leg is angled(esp initially) inward at almost a 45 degre angle. (you took away a lot of your left hamstring strength positioning your leg that way) You may also want to shift your butt back more on the initial pull which will help get your shins a bit more vertical to the ground. You may also want to push your feet through the ground more to help break the weight off the ground and to prevent lower back rounding.

Thanks for the suggestions DS! I didn't even notice the leg until you said something, but I did notice the back rounding. Steve also says my legs are too far apart, I guess that is what you mean about making them parallel? I was so psyched about the actual lift that I think I wasn't focusing on my form.
 
Nice work on the DL! I saw it last night, but never had the chance to comment on here. I did, however, have a chance to comment to my wife:

Me: "Remember how I told you there is this log on Sherdog of girls lifting and another log where this other girl logs her lifting?"
Her: "Ya"
Me: "Remember how I said you had a really strong Deadlift for a girl and that you were Deadlifted more than most"
Her: "Ya"
Me: "Well one of them just Deadlifted 205 lbs. That blows you out of the water. You need to get back in the gym."
Her: "You need to have a glass of shut the fuck up ***got"
