Crime Dayton, OH Nightclub Shooting: 9 Dead, 26 Injured

From the town of Lincoln Nebraska with a sawed-off .410 on my lap
Through to the badlands of Wyoming I killed everything in my path...

They declared me unfit to live, said into that great void my soul'd be hurled
They wanted to know why I did what I did
Well sir I guess there's just a meanness in this world

-Bruce Springsteen

It's slightly frustrating how mental illness is portrayed after mass shootings. It seems the general consensus the public and media have come to is to put the blame there. It all seems pretty absurd. For all we know, his decisions were perfectly within whatever belief system he had constructed for himself, just the same as any terrorist, which rightfully has been pointed out many times already is not automatically classified as mental illness. Ever consider this kid was just a bullied, disgruntled loser who externalized all his problems and saw no other way to get back at society? Maybe he just wanted to be famous, and this was his only option. That sounds pathetic and wicked, but, aside from maybe some pathological personality traits, is not mental illness. For all you know, he could be an anti-gun liberal who, after seeing the other two recent mass shootings, wanted to make a statement against firearms by releasing a few rounds. He could have had any number of motives that have nothing to do with mental illness.

Totally agree...this ISN'T a mental health thing. We don't consider the 9/11 attackers to be mentally ill...people might use the term 'brain washed', but in the justice system they are considered terrorists. This isnt' a problem for therapy or pills. They are criminals/terrorists.

Well to be fair leftists(like myself sometimes tbh) do tend to focus on the other factors in the wake of Islamist terror attacks.

Of course there is a certain subset of right wingers that want to opportunistically push an agenda after an Islamist terror attack that will suddenly get quiet and act like a widow in mourning when the tragedy is less convenient for them as these mass shootings are. But that's the nature of the public discourse nowadays and you could say its "both sides" too.
I don't think this is a "both sides" issue because it is broader than this. Every time, some portion of society has suffered from economic, criminal or social tragedy, a portion of the property jumps up to declaim the culture that is suffering. Drugs - culture. Terrorism - culture. Poverty - culture.

As soon as the same tragedy applies to them, they concoct non-cultural excuses. Drugs - Drug manufacturers, mental health. Terrorism - mental health. Poverty - globalists, outsourcing.

The same fucking problems, very different excuses. If no one calls out the bullshit then we're never going to solve the problems. Because if you claim that Islamic terrorism is cultural but white nationalist terrorism is mental health then you cannot create a cohesive approach to "terrorism". If inner city poverty is culture but rural poverty is outsourcing then you cannot create a cohesive approach to "poverty".

Apply that to every American problem that people try to pretend has different origins based on who the perpetrators are and you'll see why nothing can be legitimately solved.

Conservative- shootings are not a gun problem, they are a mental health problem

Liberal - oh so you support mental health care for all.

Conservative - hell no

Un-fucking-believable. This shit is becoming as common and unsurprising as can be. This legitimately makes me sick. I mean I'm just fucking sick. How long are we going to let this go on? It just happens and happens and happens. I mean I'm at a loss for words right now I really am.

This is guns and gun laws. The NRA and gun activists should feel total shame and disgust with themselves over the events of the last couple of days. They are literally lobbying against standing up to the problem. And don't hold your breath... white supremacy will be involved.

Yes I do see your point but there is a subset of leftists that are aware of that and like to play the same game, being dismissive and condescending to poor, drug riddled white communities and recycling the argument certain right wingers use when it comes to blacks or Muslims and whatnot. The point is generally to highlight this hypocrisy you're talking about but it tends to only poison the discussion.

I hope you're not the Mod who reply banned me from the other shooting thread for discussing comparisons on Irish versus Mexican immigration- seeing as it was directly related to the thread seeing as the shooter wanted to kill Mexican immigrants.

Because here you are talking about Islamic terrorism but that's ok.

Mental health facilities being shut down all over the country...and when Texas circumvented the Obamacare thing these people can't get their meds. My wife is earning great overtime though now doing psychiatric assessments in the emergency room now though so means more $$$ for us lol.

The director of the hospital said he wanted to close down the mental health section of the unit because it wasn't earning a profit due to lack of Federal funding but the State stepped in to prevent it

Mods here have been very anti free speech lately. I was reply banned from the other thread as well and then they took my thread talking about why these shootings happen, with 100+ posts mind you, and dumped it. We walk a fine line in this forum when mods who disagree with things they see on here can just trash threads because they are offended

I have a feeling mental health facilities will begin exploding soon.

We know conservatives will do nothing about the gun problem so if they have to act they will simply open mental health facilities and say, “see we’re doing stuff”

Lol yup, the irony is I'm Irish but reply banned for knocking Irish immigrants and pointing out Irish history including those Irish that fought the US in the Mexican-American war lol...

There is a mod that does the same to me with never any explanation.

That's a cheap deflection used by defensive racists when chagrinned by the fucked up actions of their perceived "team." Scream about why no one is talking about BLACK CRIME statistics which is all anyone has done since they started ramping up in the late 60's.

You seem very preoccupied with race

Don't worry, I didn't expect an intelligent rebuttal from someone who's advocating teaching children how to use guns better.
Can't expect a good rebuttal when your original comment was just a shitpost. Try again next time.
