At least IMO. They are simply not that laugh out loud funny for most of the shows. People calling him the GOAT has me exremely confused? Most of these people have to be sheep who really don't follow comedy.

His funniest work for me is the Chapelle show, I enjoyed it just as much as anyone. His movies were never widely succesful. His standup is just ok. Also the so called outrage is overstated as well as the outrage over the outrage.

Taking his total body of work into account, I'm not even sure he is top 5 amongst black comedians alone, let alone all comedians of all races.

Just had to get that thought out.

*PS* Key & Peele DID NOT "steal" his show. People have been doing sketch comedy forever. I don't get where that narrative comes from. In fact those two were on TV doing sketches before Dave.

Eddie Murphy is better imo as a comedian.

Seen some of Dave's recent work on yt and it's not half as good as his old classics.

Maybe he's just hanging out with to many bad comedians this past decade and lost touch of what comedy is suppose to be.

I honestly think only a couple of standup comedians are good. Mostly it’s something to get liquored up and see in person

^ TS are you one of these two "women"? If so, you were really laughing up a storm until he made fun of trans people.

I do think this recent DC hate is by LBGTQP+ people and their sheep. Before getting shit for daring to make a joke about them he was all loved.

DC is the best comedian hands down right now. He also says whatever the fuck he wants. He is not George Carlin but to me he has taken the spot GC has left.

His last special was funny as fuck. I got into DC when Half Baked came out and that movie is one of the best comedies every made.

You wonder what kind of generic field of douches hate on DC. I say it is weak bitches that have been propagandized into hating DC by the LBGTQP+ lobby.

Aw....he made fun of the "wrong" people. deal with it. It is a fucking joke.

Sticks and Stones was funny too.

DC is the comedian of my generation...and one of the only ones that haven't sold out and apologized for some dumb ass shit.

Depends on what style of standup you enjoy. If you’re looking for more fast-paced delivery and steady stream of jokes; I can understand. Ridiculously overrated? Probably not. He is a strong storyteller, and people love a good story.

I consider Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia to be much better at stand up, but that is like me admitting that i like Nickelback (i do)

Theres comedians i prefer watching, like Bill burr. I think norm is better, maniscalco makes me laugh more etc.

But i got no problem with Dave being called the GOAT. He seems to have done it all, his earlier stuff was laugh out loud funny. He made the funniest sketch show of all time. And now hes the most influential comic in the world, with some very interesting takes on culture.

So i think all that praise is well earned.

Also, Key and

Try again bro. You made a lot of ASSumptions. Notice I did not criticize the content. I don't even think he said anything all that controversial or offensive hence why I said the outrage was overrated as well.

In fact I didnt laugh out loud until he talked about using the restroom with a trans person. That is when it started to be funny. Before that it was meh.

He has some weird fetishes. I think on his latest special he said he enjoyed cummin on the priest's face who molested him. That's sick. Does he even run his material by anyone before doing it onstage?

I think he’s at the stage in his career where he’s coasting a little on lifetime achievement. He had a 10 year run from 2002-2012 or so inclusive of the show that’s up there with anybody to ever do his job. Louis CK had a better prime, but that’s his only real competition from a pretty massive generation of comics.

In terms of Key and Peele, their show (and mencia’s) was formally a ripoff of Chappelle too, with the hosts doing their standup act to lead into the sketches. I don’t know if Chappelle originated that concept, but Comedy Central used it with other acts after he walked. They may have been using it before Chappelle too though, was Pulp Comics in that format back in the 90s?

Young Dave Chappelle, before the Chappelle Show stole his soul, is one of the greatest comedians of all time
I'd put his early specials up against anybody ever, even Brendan Schaub
Now, I think he says important stuff that needs to be said, but hes not the same hilarious person anymore, theres a bitterness inside of him now that wasnt there before

Killing them softly was absolutely hilarious. Lately his stand up is more like social commentary than actual comedy though.
Yeah, he went the full-Carlin in the last 7 or so years, and it just isn’t my style of stand up. Dat prime doe…

Whose really better than Dave all time? People say same thing about Carlin or Hicks. Funny is subjective. Christopher Titus has made me laugh the hardest but is 5hat the metric or is it laugh/think/ tellstory

Think of your all time favorite comedians.

Got 'em?

Okay, now point to their small handful of specials that gave you that impression, and realize that they all have a bunch of forgettable shit they put out that you can barely remember. Chappelle is no different. He just has a bigger magnifying glass on his work. Like, George Carlin and Richard Pryor have a bunch of specials. You likely only remember bits from a small portion of them. There is no such thing as the "perfect" stand up comedian. Like any other acts across all mediums, they are enshrined in greatness by their best work. Not ALL of their work.
