Darth Vader vs Yoda

Wasn't Yoda like 800 years old? I'd think you'd lose a step or two, especially without TRT.

Vader wins.

Yoda was a great jedi, but a little overrated as far as accomplishments go. He couldn't beat Dooku or Palps, granted they were powerful sith lords but Vader killed them both.

Hmmm....

Here's my analysis based on the movies and statements by Lucas:

Anakin Skywalker was stated to have a greater force potential than any force-sensitive in the series (Yoda: Powerful Jedi was he....powerful Jedi). In Episode I Obi-Wan even said Anakin had a greater Midi-chlorian count than Master Yoda. Palpatine told Yoda that Anakin would become more powerful than both of them.

So Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader had the potential to be more powerful than Yoda.

However Anakin never realized his full potential. He grew strong enough to defeat Count Dooku and he was realizing his potential more quickly when he turned to the darkside but after Obi-Wan defeated him and maimed him, forcing him to need the Black suit, he wasn't as strong as his young self nor did he ever get as powerful as he could have been. Lucas himself said that Anakin had the potential to be twice as powerful as the Emperor. In the black suit he was only 80% as powerful as the Emperor. That's why Vader never decided to go against the Emperor himself and simply become leader of the galaxy. It was easier to simply do the Emperor's bidding giving his life purpose and security within the Empire than turn against his Master and ensure his own death. When he found out about Luke he saw an opportunity to betray the Emperor and make himself ruler of the galaxy with his own son as his apprentice but without him he was basically always going to be the Emperor's servant.

Yoda at the time that he fought the Emperor was evenly matched with the Emperor.

He didn't beat the Emperor but the fight was a draw. The fight with Dooku also appeared to be a standstill however Dooku distracted Yoda in order to escape. He did that because he realized he couldn't beat Yoda. Even though Obi-Wan asked Yoda to fight the Emperor Yoda told him that the Emperor would be too strong for him. Anakin beat Dooku who beat Obi-Wan twice but Obi-Wan was still strong enough to deal with Anakin because Anakin while more powerful and with greater potential was still young and arrogant. Remember that Obi-Wan didn't overpower Anakin he simply outmaneuvered him and beat him when Anakin made a costly mistake during their fight (he told Anakin not to jump onto that land but Anakin in his arrogance did it anyway making himself vulnerable to Obi-Wan's lightsaber as he was falling).

Yoda was a 900 year old burnt out Jedi by the time he met Luke although still strong enough to pull off incredible feats like levitating the X-wing. He was simply too old and frail to get involved with the fight against the Emperor, Vader and the Empire. If Vader in the suit fought Yoda when he was in his prime or even at the time that Yoda fought the Emperor he would have lost because Yoda even at that age was spry enough to battle the Emperor to a draw. If Anakin Skywalker had realized his full potential he would have beaten Yoda, even a young Yoda because he was the most powerful Jedi in history. Luke Skywalker had the same potential as Anakin according to Lucas and that is why the Emperor feared him because he knew that as Luke's powers matured he would surpass him and Darth Vader in strength and could destroy them.

So based on all of the movie facts and Lucas statements Yoda before advanced age got the better of him was stronger than Darth Vader in the black suit. Vader in the suit was very powerful but a shell of his former self which is why a more mature Luke was able to beat him in the first place. Vader was only able to beat the Emperor while he was distracted executing Luke. Anakin had the potential to be more powerful than any Jedi including Yoda, his growth was simply stunted by his injuries that caused him to need the black suit to survive.

As a die hard Star Wars fan I have to say this is pretty sound reasoning. Makes sense on all fronts; though I never understood why Vaders injuries stopped him from achieving his full potoential.

Yeah I guess so. But the problem is once they get split up into different weight classes, then they can't compete against one another. This opens up a whole can of worms which of course fuels the forum that is known as Sherdog.

That's the whole point. Who wants to see mismatch threads? No point in them.

This would have been cool if Yoda had taken something like a revitalization formulas in the Empire Strikes Back, that would have justified him being so good at an old age.

 this all makes sense -which bothers me even more.

the midochlorians are in the blood, Obi wan sliced several of his limbs off reducin his blood amount by a shitload (aka reducing midochlorians), coupled with the loss of vital organs (having a permanent breathing machine amongt others). Darth vader is pretty much a walking corpse.

Thanks.

Well think of it like an MMA fighter or any other athlete who gets injured. If the injury is serious they may never be the same athlete again.

Vader had all of his limbs chopped off and was set on fire which gave him 3rd degree burns and damaged his lungs. The black suit helps him breath. Without it he will die. So even though he survived physically he's just not the same. He's basically a cripple who needs machinery to sustain his life. Since he's got robotic arms I guess his limbs are physically stronger than a normal human but since his body is badly damaged even to the point of missing parts of it he's not able to tap in to the force and be as powerful with it as he would have been if he was perfectly healthy just like a world class athlete who has become an amputee with artificial limbs and a respirator isn't going to be able to play their sport any more.

At least in the Star Wars universe their equipment is good enough to allow Vader to still be a badass Sith Lord he's just not what he could have been before he got hurt.

so, basically, according to this thread, darth vader ='s shogun??

I'd go with Yoda. I think his greater knowledge of the force would be the deciding factor.

I'm a big Star Wars fan. Its not a matter of life or death but there's plenty of thought to be put into the question if you know enough.

prime vader would beat a prime yoda. because his mc count was higher.
done. he was the stronngest potential jedi

s prime vader would beat a prime yoda. becaus his mc count was higher.
done. he was the stronngest potential jedi

He has the strongest potential yet never fulfills it. So that potential means nothing.
