@Dragonlordxxxxx @heavyarms21 Was Chastain as character from the comics or was she some generic alien?
Chastain's character is brand new but her alien race is from the comics and directly tied into the Dark Phoenix Saga.

The alien race is D'Bari. If you recall in the comics, Jean annihilated an alien species when she caused their star to go nova.

The best thing that came out of this movie is that Sinister is untainted by Fox.

I just saw it. I can't say I was disappointed as I went in with super low expectations. It didn't surpass my expectations either. Something felt really off the whole movie, like it was missing something. None of the big character moments carried any emotional weight, the action was sub-par at best, and there were some very strange writing decisions.

-Christ, even with Mystique's somewhat limited screen time there were still several scenes where miss Lawrence wasn't wearing blue make-up. Mutant and proud my ass.
-Quicksilver gets incapacitated early, meaning no badass moment for him like in DOFP or Apocalypse. Lame.
-Mystique's line about Charles not sacrificing anything, even though she was there when he got shot in the back, was stupid. Her follow-up line about changing the name to X-Women was groan inducing. If it was the writer's intention to make her seem shallow and mean spirited, mission accomplished.
-So, instead of using any of the numerous characters that were originally involved in the Phoenix storyline like the Shi'ar, Hellfire Club, or hell even using someone like Mr. Sinister (who at least has ties to Jean in the comics), the writers just make up a new character to be the villain? WTF? Even worse her alien friends are given very little back story and just devolve into being mindless cannon fodder by the end of the movie. What a waste.
-Mystique's death was emotionless and had no impact. The directing and writing is very poor all around.
-Fassbender once again proves to be the MVP of the movie, just like in Apocalypse.
-Storm is under-powered and struggles with a man using his dreadlocks as a weapon. Fuck.
- The government seems to turn on the X-Men awfully quickly. Jean goes crazy and kills a couple of cops, so all of the sudden the years of goodwill just disappears? I'm sure they've had at least some run-ins with evil mutants who have killed some humans so why the quick turn? Oh right, bad writing.
-Magneto having his own island makes no sense. He was responsible for killing thousands of people in Apocalypse and he gets his own island? What?
-Jean just blows up at the end, because, reasons? It didn't really come off as a noble sacrifice like it did in the comics or even the 90's cartoon show. Just like Mystique's death, Jean's death felt shallow and emotionless.
-It wasn't all bad. The effects look good, the performances were good all around (I don't really get the hate that Sophie Turner gets), and......um.....I guess that's it.

Worst of all this movie was just BORING. Almost as boring as the first X-Men movie. The movie's depiction of the Phoenix is at least more accurate than it was in the Last Stand, but that doesn't mean much. I think I may actually like Last Stand more, which is a train wreck of a movie but at least it's short and somewhat entertaining. Dark Phoenix takes itself way too seriously, which would be fine if the writing and directing could actually engage the audience. Unfortunately everything just falls flat.

What a pathetic end to a franchise that's been going on since 2000. Hopefully Marvel Studios will do the X-Men right.

It's mind-boggling how FOX fucks up once again by having the same shitty writer (Simon Kinberg) responsible for Last Stand, Apocalypse and Fantastic Four back on board to write Dark Phoenix. While he also wrote Days of Future Past which was awesome, that still puts him on a 75% track record of fucking up Marvel films. Now that's gone up to 80%.

Maybe they should've listened to this guy.

Exactly my thinking. Director / writer of last stand and F4 should come nowhere near this type of property again.

MCU has a mess up once policy and you're gone which is a bit too harsh, but in the end, it works.

i don't think it would work either way, as the previous (2) movie(s) did nothing to establish these characters (apart from going to the freakin' theater) but still.

Wow. I didn't realize how overrated DOFP was around here. I liked it more than Apocalypse and First Class but I don't think it holds a candle to X1 or X2. I'd put it on par with The Last Stand. It was nice having some of the original cast back but it still stank thanks to the new cast and poor writing

DoFP was pretty good considering how they tied up the old and the rebooted versions. My only gripe is that there was no proper buildup to that whole apocalyptic future and why Prof X was alive. It must've happened after Last Stand since Cyclops and Jean aren't there but how did Prof X resurrect?

Throughout the X-Men movies there were never any mention of alien beings and now suddenly they have aliens just to make the Phoenix plot work? Sounds thrashy.

He transferred his consciousness into his brain dead twin brother

In the comics he's a stone-cold Bad Ass too.

Nice!

I really disliked what they did with the character throughout the movies. It got worse and worse for Marsden lol. From being overshadowed by Wolverine in the first to being out of a big swath of the movie in X2 and then being a mind controlled heel for a portion he appears, and then unceremoniously killed off offscreen after a glorified cameo in The Last Stand.

Those seats in red are taken, so the place was as empty as a church on Monday and this is here in Shanghai where western movies are THE MOVIES TO SEE, even the Chinese have shunned this movie (Godzilla was packed).

The film was pure garbage and very poorly acted (save for Fassbender).

I won’t go on about all the negatives except one that is always permanent in these movies:

Force push lasers/blasts/fireballs/lightening

This shit was boring 20 years ago.

So why did I go? My daughter was bored.

Obviously this movie did not help.

The moment they shitcanned Famke Jansen I checked out. Pure heat. They can go fuck themselves with age discrimination in Hollywood
