Yep, totally agree on Cyclops. These X-men movies for some dumb reason have always portrayed him as some side character. He is the LEADER of the damn team.

I also hate how Beast can instantly change between his human form and his Beast form. It defeats the entire purpose of the mutant story. When you can choose not to look like a 'freak' then where is the struggle?

I did not know that the same guy that wrote The Last Stand wrote and directed this. lol Who fucking runs FOX? The Last Stand was not at all received well--it KILLED the Xmen franchise for a while, so why the hell would you give the guy that wrote that film a second chance to do the same story, AND let him direct the film as his directorial debut? How does that make sense?

Fassbender was the lone bright spot for me. That dude just has so much presence and charisma. I very much have enjoyed him as Magneto and wish he had been cast during the MCU.

I remember the goofball actor they have playing Cyclops saying this bullshit..just found the quote i was looking for..
"“Everyone was on the same page with the idea that we were approaching it as much more of a grounded drama versus a superhero movie,” said Sheridan in an interview with Collider. “Something that’s getting old with those universes and all the Marvel movies is that they all look the same and they’re all doing the same thing. We really wanted to shake it up, in that sense, and take a different approach to this. Simon Kinberg, who wrote the past three X-Men, directed Dark Phoenix, and I’m super, super excited about it. I think it will turn out well and that it will be a different X-Men than we’ve ever seen before, so that’s exciting.”
lol shut up, dork. Stay outta the MCU

Wow. I didn't realize how overrated DOFP was around here. I liked it more than Apocalypse and First Class but I don't think it holds a candle to X1 or X2. I'd put it on par with The Last Stand. It was nice having some of the original cast back but it still stank thanks to the new cast and poor writing

Agreed.
I'm surprised at the love it's getting too. I wouldn't call it a "good" movie, but it was just better than Last Stand and Apocalypse.
The charisma of Jackman and Fassbender carried that movie, and then the extra shit like seeing Patrick Stewart and Ian, and the one Quicksilver scene helped give it a boost.

I was a big comic reader, so I never considered any of these movies to really be Xmen movies, but I thought First Class had the spirit right, and was heading in the right direction. So, I was disappointed in DOFP. That's not a story you could just jump into and complete in one movie with the skeleton cast of the Xmen they had.

Yeah that's a really poor opinion. I enjoyed DOFP more than end game. It had the highest stakes, Patrick Stewart, end of prime wolvy, and good performances all around.

Another one? Jesus. I think it's above 90% or RT, so luckily people disagree with bad opinions. DOFP was a great follow up to first class, which was also good.

Not from me , that shit was overrated

I think people were distracted by the shiny stuff.
THere was a lot of stuff going on that made it seem cooler than it was. Too many people orgasming over the Quicksilver scene. It looked cool, but that's all the movie had was a bunch of gimmicks and relying on old characters. Or they show these random characters from the comics as some sort of attempt at "fan service", but never give these characters any sort of depth.

I didn't hate the movie, but I didn't think it was anything above average.
And any movie with Mystique as a founding member of the Xmen is just not an Xmen movie.
Despite that, just as a movie, I enjoyed First Class, and i thought it was a lot better than DOFP.

I can't wait until Marvel properly does an Xmen movie and you guys can see what an actual good Xmen movie looks like.

That's fine. I liked it. Was engaging beginning to end.

I'll have to give it a rewatch but I remember thinking it was just ok and the sum was not as good as its parts. I really dislike McAvoy, Lawrence, and most of the young X-Men cast in this series

They worked ok in first class with the strength of bacon and fassbender to set the tone; In DOFP you had jackmsn, fass, Stewart, dink, and the others. Hoult was better in DOFP as well.

I don't disagree with that.
I wasn't bored, or unhappy that i saw it. It was a decent summer action movie.
As far as DOFP being better than End Game though....?

lol @ people trying to discredit DOFP

Its a good movie nerds

Deal with it

Thanks for the review. Does Dark Phoenix at least have a decent amount of action? My cousin wants to watch but I might drag him to John Wick (or heck even Pokemon) instead if its going to be a bore fest

Yes, the film has a decent amount of action, especially the last 40 minutes.
