Movies Daniel Day-Lewis sparks a feud with Brian Cox as he tells him to 'get off his soap box' after Scottish star dismissed method acting as 'American s**t'

Does it matter what method or process you do as an actor as long as it works?

Whatever works for the actor is how they should do it. Clearly DDL's way did wonders for him. And comparing achievements.... DDL > Cox

Why did DDL retire? I wonder if he could be coaxed back for the right part?

He came back from retirement to star in his son's movie.

It did not do well, financially or critically.

I watched his film Anemone and it's a slow rolling movie, not much meat or story there. But DDL acting is masterclass. Just to watch a genius do his thing, is worth watching once.

I'm good. I have seen DDL act plenty, and in good movies. I don't need to see him try to nepo baby his son into a career by carrying a mediocre film.

I know the movie snobs will be gushing over method acting but I'd imagine that's a really shit thing for everyone else working around them to deal with. Imagine trying to grab lunch and discuss the next scene and you can't even eat a fucking sandwich without dude pretending he's still Abraham Lincoln?

Just eat your lunch with any of the other hundred people you get on set for a Hollywood movie.

He's retirement age for most jobs and I think the downside of method acting is it's probably a lot more work than it is for people who find it easier to switch a character on and off.

Method acting is just something that works for some actors and normally pisses off everyone around them. I assume it's easier to put up with it when it's DDL and a lot more grating when it's Jim Carrey.

There's different levels to it like DDL vs Depp or even Will Ferrell where they drop in the character for long stretches even not filmed between shots but will peek out at times. Arnold was method actor in terminator, predator and conan but peek to work with directors. He went from 235 to 215 and cut by doing a special forces routines in the fucking jungle before the shoot and during.
Then again Jared Letos Joker and Jimmy carreys andy Kaufman.
And it's DDL. He should have gotten an Oscar for gangs and last of the Mohicans. He was doing real Indian shit lol

I get it that some people laugh at method acting, but those motherfuckers laughing are never Daniel Day Lewis, so fuck their opinion. It's all about results baby.

Daniel Day Lewis is pretty hack-ish sometimes. I am not sure he is a great actor or people just like the characters he plays. I don't really know if people know his work outside of There Will Be Blood, Last of the Mohicans, and Gangs of New York.

DDL retired from theatre work because he was playing Hamlet and was so deeply into the role that he saw the, "ghost" of his dead father in the audience.

Even with films, the prep work took it's toll. He broke a rib contorting his body and staying in a wheelchair 16 hours a day during the filming of My Left Foot. For The Boxer, he went through months of intensive training with professional fighters.

This is exactly what Cox meant by what he said. Do you really have to take it “that far” to be convincing? Method acting is one thing, but things like this is what gives method acting its reputation that it’s been having.

Method acting is demonic pagan shit. Also, There Will Be Blood is solid.

demonic pagan shit.
