For me it’s impossible to choose.

TWBB. Was his best work but GONY is one of his only big box office films I likely go Butcher for thst reason. Imo he doesn't have a sig role he knocks any role out the park

People will say Plainview but Bill would hang Plainviews carcass from a meat hook and carve him from stem to stern.

The Butcher is his greatest role imo, and one of the greatest villains ever put to screen.

Bill the Butcher. But unfortunately that role is in a mediocre movie and loses a lot of luster as a result. A better made Gangs of New York that had more story around Bill's character would have been better imo.

His role as Plainview in TWBB is a masterpiece and deserves every accolade it has received. The movie as a whole was a fantastic tale and well put to screen. Tough call!

Plainview, because the entire was about him. Though I personally like his performance in Gangs of NY better.

One movie is about street brawls and the other one is about an old guy and his deaf son drilling oil

its the fatty bias

Bill the butcher win, It just as great of a performance but within the context of a much better movie overall.

Casuals love Butcher and his role is elevated by how bad Leo and Cameron Diaz are in GONY, but it's TWBB. He's so fucking good in it. The score and Dano take TWBB to a level far and above GONY.

I almost feel wrong for thinking Bill the Butcher but I cant help but like that character and the performance more.
