Daniel Cormier vs prime Randy Couture

Couture only lost a few losses at HW...the early ones he lost he should have won but got careless..I think at LHW its an easy win for Cormier...at HW its tougher but I think Couture's and Cormier's wrestling is about equal...I think ppl are forgetting Couture had better wrestling than Severn or Coleman or Lesnar. It doesn't come down to pure wrestling however, it comes down to MMA wrestling and I would say its equal. I give the edge in a Hw fight to Cormier simply he's a faster puncher and can mix things up at a faster pace,and can keep it on the feet. I don't think the vast majority realize how tough Couture was at HW when he wasn't overly shot....it would be a very even fight the guys who couture lost to were submission guys at HW not pure wrestlers...and Lesnar who was mainly a grappler but has advantages over Cormier.
 
I'm surprised at the responses. I wouldn't consider DC a sure thing at all.

Based on what? Brock took Randy down once (vs. no takedowns for Randy) and beat him at his own game (wall-n-stall against the fence). P4P Randy may have been better, but at HW Brock was the better wrestler.

Couture actually took Lesnar down first,then was reversed by Lesnar under MMa rules put them on strictly a mat and Couture would win...as stated MMa wrestling is different.

Couture actually took Lesnar down first,then was reversed by Lesnar under MMa rules .Put them on strictly a mat and Couture would win...as stated MMa wrestling is different. Look when Carwin stuffed Lesnar in round one, and how Lesnar in round two got smart and took him down immediately from the out side.
 
Randy "TRT Godfather" Couture would definitely lose
 
Randy was a legend for sure, but that doesn't change how good DC is. He's 17-1 against most of the best competition at LHW and HW, and if Jones didn't exist he might have had a much longer reign at LHW. He's an Olympic wrestler whose wrestling translated well to MMA and he has an iron chin to boot (knocked down by those rumble bombs but he got up and won the fight). Randy is a great fighter, but if you honestly (without bias) analyze DC's fights and Couture's I don't know how you could make the argument that Randy would win.

The sport has evolved a lot since Randy's time. Look at Jones and who he beat, a who's who of the big names from the Liddell/Pride era.

Just cause you hate DC doesn't change the fact that he's a great god damn fighter.
 
I remember when I first started watching MMA too.

Did most of you pull your response after you looked at Randy's profile on Sherdog?

Didn't have the best record but fought the hardest fights for the time, he could take damage well too for most of his career, he always had a solid plan and was able to stay with it, and beating Big Tim was a big deal at the time. DC I think wins but I wouldn't bet on the fight at all. Some of you guys make it seem like Couture was just some bitch. Da fuck..
 
To answer this question I must first re-watch Couture Lesnar and Couture Randleman. Brb.

Ok, back. DC wins 9/10 times.
 
Sick of people with so many goldfish memories. Yesterdays legends are now consider bums. Fedor, Randy, Cro Cop, Hughes, Coleman, Liddell, etc are all treated unfairly.

I hate when people try to downplay tim sylvia. Tim had a style that everyone had problems with when he was in his prime. He was tall and long and he used his range very well. He also had an excellent sprawl and was able to keep fight standing when he wanted. It wasnt until he let himself go physically that he couldn't compete anymore. I am pretty sure he is still the UFC HW who has won the most championship fights.

People loved to shit on him as soon as he left the UFC, especially dana. Lets not forget....his last ufc fight was for the belt and he was on his way to winning a dominant decision until he decided to jump into Nogueiras guard and he got caught in a submission.

He really is one of the best HWs in his prime that the UFC has ever had. He was just slow and boring to watch, but his style for his size was extremely effective.

I dont think anyone has ever called hughes a bum....but i agree with the sentiment for the most part. Of the names you listed, I woould say I consider Randy and Chuck to be the worst among them but they are all-time greats in their own right.

Right. Lesnar reversed Randy and outgrappled him against the cage, which was supposed to be Randy's specialty. So Lesnar was the better MMA wrestler at the time.
