Daniel Cormier vs prime Randy Couture

Randy survives a rough couple rounds and beats the tar out of a gassed DC in 3-5.

after seeing what he did to hendo i got no doubt hed do the same to randy and probably stop him.

Where I think you could potentially make the case for Randy being better is as a gameplanner with excellent cardio. Cormier has a superior chin but he does put himself in harms way more by exchanging more aggressively standing.

I still think actually that Randy was a bit lucky the way his career progressed as he tended to avoid opponets who were dangerous standing AND on the ground. We saw what happened with Nog, granted Randy was dropping off then but I think Nog was dropping off just as much of not more and Randy couldn't cope with an opponent who was dangerous everywhere. The same was true with Barnett and Ricco back in the day and I think would have been with Fedor, Sergei and maybe Herring as well. If Randy didn't have a "safe spot" to aim for he had a lot more trouble winning fights.

I wanted to say thank you to Kick for starting another interesting thread.

I think DC has a 70/30 shot at taking it. I never count Randy out entirely.

Hiding from the world right now- I just called out sick, and I think I'll just stay in bed. Would post boob gifs as a palette-cleanser to counteract reading about me in bed, but I'm on my phone.

brb+use imagination

DC wins because all older fighters are shit compared to this new generation of savages

Randy had a glass chin and was built like a 30 year old when he was 50. Should have been called randy the unnatural couture. He beat Tim Sylvia who gives a shit
This guy knows what's up. Old and overrated every single one of them

I don't think the wrestling would even play a factor, I think DC would have just winged punches at him and put him to sleep. Couture had great boxing but he didn't handle pressure particularly well and that's where DC excels.

"probably edges him in power" Huh? Randy never had ko power, he was more of a drag you into deep water, wear you out and get the tko.

That's about how I gauge DC's power. He has one clean KO against top competition and Bigfoot's chin has seen better days. There's the finish of Cummins where Cummins was comically outmatched and coming in on short notice. Generally they both wear you out and get the late TKO or late sub.

They both have some earlier finishes in the beginning of their careers. I don't really rate either of their KO power esp. high tbh.

I think it might actually be more competitive than some people in here predict, but Cormier is more or less better than Randy was at everything MMA related. It's tough to see how Couture possibly wins this fight.

Cormier has gone 5 rounds on three occasions and hasn't gassed yet.

Cormier wins by being better everywhere and showing that MMA really has evolved in the last 15 years.

Which "prime" version of Randy are we talking about anyway? The one who got subbed by Enson, Mikhail Ilyukhin and Valentijn Overeem in Japan? Or the one who came back to the UFC and lost to Josh Barnett, Ricco and Chuck?

Cormier has one loss: a 5-round decision against Jon Jones. Don't forget, he destroyed the full TRT version of Bigfoot. This wasn't the current chinny Bigfoot, but a version who beat Fedor months earlier and had only been finished once before in a controversial TKO.

In addition, Cormier has beaten Barnett, Mir and Roy Nelson at HW, along with Rumble and Gus at LHW. Like him or not, he's a very good and very consistent fighter. Anyone really think Randy would only have one loss against all of Cormier's opponents?

Couture didnt have a glass chin. He just didnt recover well from getting his bell rung. There is a difference. Some guys go out when you breathe on them, that wasnt randy. Plus he was an old man,who coulda stuck to wheelchair matches,so you gotta forgive him for that.

DC would beat him at every Sport. MMA, Wrestling, BJJ, Boxing, TKD, Basketball.

Cormy has better hands, wrestling wise he is better too but not by a huge margin. I see Randy able to stuff takedowns and get his own. Clinch boxing goes to Randy.Prime Randy was 10000% grittier and that has to count for something, whereas Cormier at this point is only just discovering the limits he can be pushed.

I'm not sure what machine you use to measure "grittiness," but I doubt there's 10,000X difference between them. Cormier survived bombs by Rumble and a 5-round war with Gus. Going 5 rounds during 3 fights and only losing once is pretty gritty. And Olympic wrestlers usually have a fair amount of grit, too.
