Media Dana White on combatting piracy

What I don't understand is a model they could use is under their roof. Every sports league sells products and clothing and advertises to make more money and people buy it. Additionally all sports leagues show the kind side of their sport showing athletes reading to children, supporting a non-profit or for the most popular stars doing Make A Wish runs. UFC, to my knowledge, does none of that and they have plenty of fighters from much poorer countries.

It wouldn't hurt the UFC brand if they showed some fighters that knew how to read instead of getting in trouble with the law or going on Joe Rogan's podcast.

The pirates have been the bane of Dana's existence for a long time now. At least he finally caught one in Canada.

Product UFC has is not possible to be safe from streamers ,Dana knows that

I don't agree with people here.
I mean, UFC ain't first need product. You are attacking Dana like he is blocking food for orphan. No like one of thousands of possible entertaitment.
I got UFC fight pass for like 60$ a year, got everything I wanna watch there and for me it is bargain. Don't paying for PPV, because there are like 1 or 2 fights, that I wanna watch anyway, better wait a week.
Is current model the best buissenes for UFC? I don't know, not used to be CEO of billions worth company, hard to say from my experience.

But don't make from Dana evil overlord, because sport's company wants to earn as much as possible. It ain't housing. It ain't agriculture. For fucking sake - it aint holy meat industry.

What's the real solution, Sherbros?

Meanwhile, I just do a google search every weekend and find about 300 streams to watch the fucking thing in almost full HD <lmao> <lmao> <lmao>

Not to mention the immediate uploads both on websites and torrent sites of all the fights, even before the event ends.

Dana is just one big CAP.

i don’t see how anyone begrudges this view from dana. he runs the ufc. what you expect him to say? “we’ll never be able to stop people from pirating our shit, so we give up.” get real.

that said, i’m not buying digital media that i can easily get for free unless i really support the creator. same with musicians, and even actors.

Lol at Dana thinking they can do what the entire music, film, and television industries couldn’t do. Your product costs over $100 a month to follow, that’s why you have a piracy problem. You cannot eliminate piracy. The only solution is what everybody else has figured out. Offer your product at a reasonable monthly subscription price. It’s been proven that most people are in fact willing to pay when they feel they’re getting a fair deal. Their exorbitant prices are not a fair deal.

I understand your point and it's a valid one. The problem I think with your logic is the UFC is openly putting out a trash product when they can do it better by doing less cards. On top of that they are on a service that has been reported numerous times does not work consistently. In these 2 cases they are openly putting out a bad product and then upset when people steal the product.

Other sport teams do not do this. For example, Carolina Panthers tickets will not be higher than Baltimore Ravens tickets generally (unless the owner sucks). Why? Because people don't want to go pay to watch a bad team but if I am in the area I can still watch the game for free if I want on my local station or a local bar, and there's much less of a chance FOX's broadcast will cause issues.

Not that I've ever done this, but I figure I could take the same amount UFC charges for a PPV and spend it on a sex worker instead. There's no doubt I'd have a better experience.

Or I could just use it to buy 2-3 days' worth of food which I need to survive. Or I could buy more clothes. Or I could pay for 3-4 streaming services for a month. Or...you get the idea.

At this point you'd have to be an idiot to pay that much for a streaming service that according to pretty much everybody on the internet almost never works properly.
The food argument is one I use as well.

How about this? Going to a bar, I spend $20-30 to watch. One includes a cover charge, and 1-2 drinks. I don't drink a lot, so that's all I want. The other bar had no cover charge if you get there before the main card, clearly a ploy to sell drinks and food. It worked. I bought food for me and my girlfriend, paid like... $40? Or less, maybe $30. Drinks too. So how is it everything else, even with the prices everything's at, get it so much more right than the UFC?

Someone brought up the "luxury" argument. Well that's exactly right. If there were literally no other way to access the PPVs, what would happen is, a huge chunk of people just wouldn't watch. In a way, the UFC is indebted to the streamers for keeping the circulation of their product intact.

I actually think they know this, too. They just don't have to figure anything else out while under that ESPN deal, is my guess.

No one is concerned about the Orphans because we know they can be saved for just 20 cents a day. On the flip side what is the JBG supposed to eat without any free streams to satiate the hunger for people being bludgeoned?

This exactly. Even if they could entirely eliminate streaming, it would actually hurt them. People wouldn’t suddenly be willing to spend $100 a month to watch, they’d just stop watching. They don’t have a streaming problem, they have a pricing problem.
