I dont think the 10-9 system is completely broken.
it's how the 10-9 system is implemented.
as nick Diaz said, takedowns should count, but not counted.
just like how I am positive if you showed judges a round where a guy stuffs 3 out of 4 takedowns, and the standup was even, how many UFC judges are going to score the round for the fighter that was 1/4 on takedowns? 99.5% of judges would.
and that's the problem. the 'damage' or what constitutes 'winning' a certain aspect of a fight/round is not implemented correctly in a way that appropriately values all possible occurrences in the cage.
think about this:
if the avg takedown success is 60%. Does it make sense to award a fighter more 'credit' for doing something that's universally easier to do than if a fighter stuffs a takedown?
as an aside, I think one rule change that would greatly enhance fights is lengthening the time between rounds. If you gave fighters 90s or even 120s of rest between rounds I am positive we would see even more competitive and exciting finishes.
