She fought stupid, didnt take time to find her timing. She needs not to get dragged into another brawl.
Im mean i guess if you into this kind of narratives. My man, how could you not enjoy the drama unfold. I was open mouthed , shouting at my TV. That kind of drama is only once every several years. Utterly memorable.
Me and a few others have been saying Nunes isn't much more than a brawler.
She's never been this technical savant.
She has gotten by simply by overpowering and overwhelming her opponents (that generally fought scared.
That could be it also. But I feel she overlooked Pena a bit and wasn't expecting to struggle with her. I don't think she was physically and mentally ready for a hard fight. Her last fight was vs Megan and it was over quick. She got too comfortable with her power and not expecting fighters to stand toe to toe with her. Probably why she doesn't work on striking defense.I think she had emptied the gas tank and was having her conor moment. I wonder if the fighting at the higher weight class has made the cut much harder for her.

She'll need to improve her striking, she has no striking defense that's why Pena was able to use a simple jab so effectively with her. Plus Pena was threatening her on the ground and the grappling exchanges got Nunes tired as well. She will need to improve her grappling/striking cardio and technique for the rematch. She got used to people not fighting back with her striking and she's been grappling vs people without a real ground game. She fought a well rounded fighter this time around.Even when she was striking in the second she was taking deep breaths with hands down and then just swinging wild haymakers. Pena took her best shots and didn't go down.
Personally I think Nunes won't get the belt back with how easily she gave up. Just wanted an easy payday.
It’s not often that upsets are reversed. @Kyojiro Kagenuma pointed out Stipe vs DC, and I offered my thoughts on that. Since UFC 1, the person who won the first fight also wins the rematch 62% of the time.

GSP vs Matt Serra II . I win bye .
Did Nunes had Covid when she lost to Cat Zingano? Alexis Davis , Sarah D. Alelio?? They gave the blue print on how to beat Nunes.Nunes wasnt fighting like herself. Maybe due to longterm Covid complications? If she doesnt fix whatever is wrong she will lose the rematch.
