Why should a 6 or 7 month gap between defenses, a perfectly usual period, be considered hilarious if the previous contenders were really all the same person? 25 minutes of hard fighting still impacts the same, it's not like you've gained antibodies for someone's punches from having fought the guy before.
May I remind you that 2/3rds of the trilogy wasn't Stipe's idea? Dana pushed for the first one, Cormier pushed for the third. And those were the title defenses for Stipe. The only fight you could fault Stipe for demanding and delaying his own fighting schedule for was the second. But that was in pursuit of a title shot rematch...like Ngannou is now doing.
May I also remind you, that after the Ngannou-Overeem fight Dana couldn't book the title shot fast enough. Contracts were signed in a week, the date set for merely a month and a half in the future. Stipe made no fuss about being stuck with a short camp during holiday season. Francis may have amply re-earned a title shot now, but that doesn't mean he's due the same haste in arranging it.
