He's not there yet, but he fits the archetype of a HW destroyer, that's pretty rare in combat sports. Think like a Mike Tyson-lite. The UFC also wants to expand into France and the Middle East, and Ngannou would be very useful for both, former because he lived there, latter because of proximity to African time zones.

Having said that the UFC fucked up by not striking when the iron was hot and feeding Jon Jones to Ngannou, that's the quickest way to make a star, have them beat a star.

What makes you believe African market brings any value when nearly 40% of their population lives in extreme poverty. They arent tapping the african market for another decade or two. UFC has already hit its ceiling in the middle east and I cant see them coming to France any time soon either especially seeing how gambling is illegal in France. IMO Frank couldnt even hold Tysons jock strap.

Yeah, and putting champs on there takes them out for 6 months or so, which is already longer than what Volk needed to get over Covid likely. Especially given that they would prefer Ortega win. There are plenty of other fighters they could have put on TUF to coach who aren't champs.

It's possible but I very much doubt it. and I haven't seen the numbers on it so I suspect it's more anecdotal your feeling.

Adesanya and Usman will fight three times this year. The HW championship will be contended at least twice, possibly three times. McGregor is fighting twice in the span of 6 months.

I do believe things have changed. I have been obsessed with UFC for over a decade and have never seen such quick matchmaking. It's a very welcome change.

Not the African market. But they probably owe Abu Dhabi and their Middle East partners a few big events. Ngannou is an easy choice for that, the mystique of HWs plus being from a nearby timezone. I don't think you understand that a lot of people in the mainstream PPV business were projecting that Ngannou-Jones would do a million buys and have actual mainstream appeal. That's an incredibly big deal for UFC fights.

I think champs can fight 3 times a year in bursts, but I doubt it's sustainable for 2 or 3 years in a row, if for any reason injuries and taking time to develop contenders.
