I'm listening to LeBatard's show, which I generally enjoy, but they were talking a bit about MMA a moment ago because Meisha Tate is about to make a guest appearance and Dan was making the point that anything can happen in MMA, which is of coutse true, but his example was that "Conor McGregor went from knocking out Jose Aldo in 13 seconds to losing to 'Nick' Diaz who no one would say is in any way a special fighter." Just goes to show how ignorant mainstream sportswriters remain about MMA.

Nate is an amazing fighter. Certainly more tested and more well rounded than conner. And he proved it when he strangled him half to death.

Can people call in to his show?

If you're a LeBatard fan you should point out his error and help get him educated, mainstream writers aren't going to see these threads.

I think he's right about Nate.

How so? He's #5 at lightweight but even if you don't think he's an elite fighter as a whole, his BJJ is certainly "special." He's tooled many very capable grapplers on the floor and he's also a very good boxer relative to the competition.

Miesha, just goes to show how ignorant TS is.

I don't remember an exciting Nick Diaz fight, I just think he's overrated.

Lock up LeBastard and Nate in the cage see how long he lasts lol.

So he watched the fight where one guy is supposed to be the next best thing since sliced bread after KO'ed FW champ Aldo in 13 secs. While the other dude came in on 11 days notice who was in Cabo "training for triathlon" 11 days before the fight, eat up all the shots Conor can dish out, walks him down, slaps him around a bit until Conor shoots for a TD since he can wrestle too and would crush Nate's hips, pass his guard, mount and finish him but instead got caught on a guillotine, rolled over, mounted, punched in his temple into a rear nake choke...and this is all he can come up with?

If top 10 in the world isn't special, idk what makes a fighter special.

The ignorant part is that they use the idea that "anything can happen" to shit on MMA. Meanwhile, in the most popular sport in the U.S., they can't stop repeating "on any given Sunday!".

Someone tweeted a correction to him that he read on air but he focused mostly on admitting to mixing up the names when responding to the tweet. I wasn't expecting him to read my Sherdog thread, I was more looking to generate a discussion about sportswriters lacking awareness of the sport, even ones who profess to be fans of it, as Dan does.

I'm also at work and not able to make a call like that here. It's bad enough I'm goofing off on Sherdog on the clock.

I think the Diaz brothers are not especially skilled but have more heart than most and only care about stepping in and putting on a war.
The biggest things going for them aside from their boxing is stuff you can't teach.
Respect.

Funny enough is his right by accident, but it looks like Nate is trying to learn from Nicks mistakes and working to be better

Is he truly special? Or just well rounded with good grappling and great cardio, and a long reach. He's very good. Yes. I love me some Nate Diaz, but I don't think he's "special"... Most fighters aren't special. I view special as an intangible quality that only few fighters have - BJ Penn, Fedor, Anderson, Jones, ect.

I hate this guy for the way he treated Chael Sonnen on his show. He can go fuck himself.
