Yeah kinda, I just don't think any coach deserves that much praise, there's only so much they can really do. Once you hit a certain level of knowledge, it just comes down to who gets the most talented fighters. There is no coach out there who is so amazing they can turn a mediocre fighter into a champ. There are definitely coaches that are so bad they can turn a championship-level fighter into a mediocre one, but again, once you hit a certain level of knowledge that all the top coaches are at, it just comes down to who gets the most talented guys.Bareman is obviously a decent coach. But I think he’s vastly overrated in the same way John Kavanagh was when Conor burst onto the scene.
Some coaches just get kissed on the dick because a tremendously talented and hard working athlete happened to walk through their doors one day. Who as you say, would’ve likely become great wherever he went.
When Conor came along, everyone hyped up SBG and thought it would become a production line for great fighters. Instead we got Artem. James Gallagher, a ruined Gunnar Nelson, and that Charlie Ward guy that got KO’d via head spike throw.
When Izzy came along, everyone hyped up CKB and thought it would become a production line for great fighters. Kara-France is decent. But unlikely to trouble the top of the division. Riddell and Volkanovski both do more training away from CKB than they do with them. And Dan Hooker is tough and has heart. But has been found out.
Hooker is to Adesanya, as Artem Lobov was to Conor.
That could be it
Maybe being in gym wars at City Kickboxing and Tiger Muay Thai is part of the downfall.
The move back to 145 was just a bad call. And I don't think it was any of Eugene's doing. I get why he did so as he probably thought there's just no way he's ever going to beat a guy like Islam. But there's also just no way Hooker can perform at his best at 145 lbs entering his mid 30's. Maybe give Dan 1 more try at righting the ship. But at the same time, it might be best for Dan to let him explore an option like Eagle FC and get a fresh start where it's probably clear Dan is not touching gold in the UFC.
You should move over there and become champ bro!nah man. He coaches adasanya. Just coach him to have all those attributes and he’ll be a champion… just like if you or I was under Eugene. We’d all be champions in no time
sherdog is retarded
And in the same way that money makes money. Talent attracts talent. Then the biggest challenge for a coach is not becoming a Puppy Mill like Jackson-Wink did. And that I’m starting to think ATT is on the cusp of becoming.Yeah kinda, I just don't think any coach deserves that much praise, there's only so much they can really do. People love to undermine talent when that's the most important aspect. Hard work only matters if there's any talent to begin with. Some of yall wayyyyyy overestimate coaching, talent is what it's all about, Israel would be the champ if he trained in any of the top gyms
Yeah that's a good point about Jackson Wink, seems like Jackson was the real brains behind it and lost interest. And in the same way that money makes money. Talent attracts talent. Yeah exactly, I bet Israel was beating dudes up after a few months that had been training for years.People love to undermine talent when that's the most important aspect. Hard work only matters if there's any talent to begin with.
He had a layup before he fought Islam.Love Dan but he needs a layup in his next fight...
It's so obvious that Izzy is a freak talent. There is no magic remedy that overcomes a huge disparity in talent. Good coaching and training will draw out potential, but if that potential is shit then it's w/e.Bareman is obviously a decent coach. But I think he’s vastly overrated in the same way John Kavanagh was when Conor burst onto the scene.

TLDR version - Hooker is to Adesanya, as Artem Lobov was to Conor.
He has a topcoach, who coaches 2 defending UFC champions
He has a great reach, FW or LW, I think the only guy who had a better reach at LW recently was James Vick and that because he was a fucking MW.
He has top sparring parters, technical fighters, like Adesanya, Volk, even Riddell, Kai, Ulberg.
He's (or was) a guy who can endure a lot of punishment (see the Barboza fight), athletic.
Can't Bareman teach him some "be smart, be pacient, don't go into his fists"?
Can't he teach his some distance control, having a better technique, actually learn something from Adesanya, Riddell and Volk?
Hooker and Artem are in no way comparable.Bareman is obviously a decent coach. But I think he’s vastly overrated in the same way John Kavanagh was when Conor burst onto the scene.
